Almost time to relax a bit for OU athletics… almost. Summer is here, and wrapping up the football recruiting camps. Softball and baseball are active in the transfer portal. And it’s the final days of OU in the Big 12, literally.

The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop is back to break all things down, especially as football keeps making moves.

ChampUBBQ time

OK, it’s a little different this year. The ChampUBBQ is still a mega-event for OU football. But head coach Brent Venables spread the wealth a bit this time. Last weekend was a huge deal, too. And OU has already seen some positive gains from that.

From not being in a top five to now landing the commitment of Marcus Harris, things can change so quickly in recruiting.

The Sooners continue to fare incredibly well on the trail. We’ll see if the momentum continues this weekend at the annual event.

On-spot offers galore

We’re now up to 26 offers. Twenty-six offers from four camps for recruits from the 2026-28 classes. That’s not bad. And it gives more weight to Venables talking about getting kids to campus.

The final camp is Thursday. It has been a great two-week period for the Sooners. What offers might end up at OU when it’s all said and done?

Go Boomer time?

What everybody has been waiting for this week. The softball portal window is closed. It’s time for Patty Gasso and company to make some moves.

It does sound like good news is imminent for OU, but it might be a waiting game for that one transfer. That one transfer, of course, being former Stanford star pitcher NiJaree Canady.

Canady is officially in the portal, but it’s going to be a battle. Instead, look for OU to check off the boxes to some of the other needs for the 2025 team.

Rebuilding? Try reloading.

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
