We’re not messing around, time for OU football. The Sooners hit the practice field for the first time Wednesday morning. Ah, the smell of the grass for preseason camp.

The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop returns breaking it all down. Any storyline you can think of is being covered as head coach Brent Venables takes Team 130 into the Southeastern Conference.

Football!

A lot of the questions we had in April, well, they’re still there. OU did, of course, add a big-time defensive tackle in Damonic Williams and center Branson Hickman.

But outside of that, this is pretty much the same team we saw back in the spring game more than three months ago.

Who are the players to watch? What sort of adjustments are going to be made with Zac Alley and/or Seth Littrell?

You can go position-by-position and think of one question after another. It does feel like the questions are slanted a bit more positive in 2024 compared to 2022 and 2023. The team looks more stacked across the board, but there’s still concerns.

Legitimate concerns, like the offensive line, for example.

OU came in eighth in the preseason SEC poll. That seems unheard of with the Sooners’ tradition. But it’ll be up to OU to show everybody who it is again.

Under the Stars brings about offers galore

No commitments from the final mega-OU recruiting event of the summer. However, there were offers going out like crazy for 2026 and 2027 prospects.

OU had its Under the Stars event that included 2026 commits coming back to town. And whenever you can get quarterback pledge Jaden O’Neal on campus? That’s a good thing, maybe even a great thing.

How good does OU feel about its 2025 class and how things are getting rolling for 2026?

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast by SoonerScoop.
