SoonerScoop Sights & Sounds: Day 1 OU spring practice

It is time to get to know the next crop of Sooners for OU football. A whole bunch of new faces, including some new coaches. Day 1 of spring football is in the books.
All you can learn from the initial day is what OU emphasized during the winter months. Like putting on the weight for guys like David Stone and Damonic Williams. Or cutting down the weight like wide receiver Deion Burks.
Getting an idea of where the transfers might fit. Who might be some freshmen that can already make the type of big impact right from the jump? We’ll learn a lot about Team 131 during the next five weeks.
Local media was treated to around 45 minutes of watching OU practice Thursday afternoon. Here are the Sights & Sounds from SoonerScoop video editor Eddie Radosevich.

Venables’ opening statement
“It’s one of my favorite times of the year for all the reasons you would expect,” head coach Brent Venables said. “We’re building a new team and just a lot of different things that are going on all at once. It’s been a while since we’ve been together. So just kind of recap and unwind just a few things as we get started here.
“Just a few other things as well that I want to touch base with. You guys know that we lost I think 32 scholarship players and we signed 32 scholarship players, both in the transfer portal — 19 on offense, 11 on defense and we signed two scholarship specialists. We have a couple of other guys as well that are preferred walk-ons. We also put Ben Anderson, he’s going to play this game a long time, as one of our scholarship players. Ben Anderson, one of our long snappers, he’s now on scholarship as well.”
