SoonerScoop Sights & Sounds: OU back at McCasland
All the pageantry, all the feel-good spirit about the OU moment would have vanished if there wasn’t a quality performance.
Luckily for OU basketball coach Porter Moser and company, the Sooners came through. OU was fantastic in its return to McCasland Field House with a 107-86 victory against visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday night.
The win helps the No. 25th-ranked Sooners to 7-0 this season.
“It was huge. I’ll tell you what I was really happy for the guys,” Moser said. “You know, it was great to see this. Sometimes you get something like that, and guys start doing things they can’t do. Next thing you know, they’re all trying to do stuff. We had 26 assists. I thought we really shared it. Our spacing was outstanding. We were making one more extra passes.
“Twenty-six assists is a lot, and in this atmosphere sometimes guys can just start being selfish and going one-one-one. I didn’t think we had any of it. I thought everyone was sharing it, passing it, getting each other shots. So, I was really happy offensively. That can go south in an atmosphere like this on a night like that.”
Moser had a vision of what a students-only type of game might feel. That vision was on full display with a record 3,124 students in attendance to watch OU score more than 100 points for the first time under Moser.

“You know I just, for me, it’s just the relationship I’m building with the students that they know I come over and talk to them. I’m all over campus,” Moser said. “And I just love college students in terms of just the excitement, the energy they bring to a college team. And now they were great.
“It was funny behind the bench. I mean I felt like I had another assistant coach telling me to sub. “Put in Yaya. Put in…” different things. But it was fun. I think they had a blast. Just afterwards looked up at everywhere. I mean they were everywhere. The students made an impact. I’m pleading with them man. Let’s go. Providence Tuesday. I hope they can come out.”
Otega Oweh led a balanced effort with 20 points.
