SoonerScoop Sights & Sounds: OU practice No. 2
OU has wrapped up its first two days of preseason camp, and SoonerScoop was able to watch the first 45 minutes of practice Friday morning. It’s back, time for Sights & Sounds from SoonerScoop’s Eddie Radosevich.
Here’s Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables with his assessment of the start of camp.
“Day two was good. First couple of days. Obviously, we’re not in pads. Tomorrow we go into shells, take Sunday off and just have meetings,” Venables said. “And so it’s been really good. You know, again, to have 63 guys hadn’t been here for fall camp, so there’s a transition for several guys but still football.
“And it’s just a little certain way that we do things and really pleased with how guys are transitioning and adjusting and we’re excited. We’re getting better at some situational work. And there’s a lot of give and take. That’s what you want to see and seeing guys make some plays. Not just layups that go without saying, but the guys that are making plays. You’ve had some guys like an Eric Gray, or one of my favorite players of all time, nine from last year (Brayden Willis), that made some plays.

“And we got to get more guys that can make plays on both sides of the ball, when maybe everything isn’t perfect, and I’m seeing that maturation. Especially it’s awesome to see we’re making some great plays on offense today. Really encouraging where guys are in great position on defense and guys are just making plays. If it’s a quarterback, if it’s receivers, the tight end and if it’s the back. So really encouraged by that.
“Got a long way to go. A lot of improvement. That’s two out of 24 that are in the books, and we got to make them all count. And so a lot of work to be done but really pleased with the buy in and leadership and toughness of the guys they’ve looked good for the first couple of days.”
