SoonerScoop video: OU basketball, softball portal recap
August isn’t just about football news, and SoonerScoop has you covered there. The transfer portal and assistant coach hires have kept the summer months very busy in basketball and softball.
SoonerScoop’s George Stoia and Bob Przybylo break it all down in this latest SoonerScoop video.
Head coach Porter Moser has filled out the roster and filled out the staff. The latest addition is bringing Clayton Custer back to Oklahoma as an assistant coach.
Custer played for Moser at Loyola (Chicago) as part of the legendary Final Four squad for the Ramblers in 2018. Custer has begun his coaching career at Moser, including being at OU the last two seasons.
He was hired by Loyola in April but is coming back to OU.
There will be plenty of questions about Moser and the team heading into the season. The goal will be, obviously, for the Sooners to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time during Moser’s tenure.

Will the roster changes be enough to get the Sooners rolling again?
Kelly Maxwell is a Sooner?!?! Kelly Maxwell is a Sooner
Over to softball and the three-time defending national champions. It was announced Monday afternoon the transfers are in for head coach Patty Gasso.
And yes, that includes Kelly Maxwell. For the first time, we saw what the former Oklahoma State pitcher looks like in a Sooner uniform. To the other side of Bedlam.
It’s still stunning.
Maxwell headlines a four-player group with fellow pitchers Paytn Monticelli (Wisconsin) and Karlie Keeney (Liberty) and catcher Riley Ludlam (Furman).
Nobody has any idea what the Sooners can do for an encore in 2024 after one of the most historic collegiate seasons ever in 2023. But Gasso and crew have replenished and are in line to make another run.
And, of course, open Love’s Field for the 2024 season.
All that and more from Stoia and Przybylo.
