OU knocked out its fourth practice of preseason camp Monday, and SoonerScoop was able to catch up with players and coaches after practice. The second season under Brent Venables is less than a month away.

SoonerScoop will be back at post-practice Tuesday afternoon.

OC Jeff Lebby

“We really do. I think walking out here on the grass, you can just see the bodies. And another year with Schmidty in recruiting, and being Year 2, I think you can tell that we look, just walking on the field, we look better than we did a year ago today, which is helpful.”

RB Jovantae Barnes

“I just feel like I’m more hungry and I’m more energized, and I’m more ready. Feel like I’m more locked in and focused. I know I said this last time when I talked to you guys, but this is the honest truth; I feel like I’m locked in, and I’m more excited, definitely with the hold back from my injury, I feel like just coming back from that, I knew I was going to knock it off.”

WR Jalil Farooq

“I feel like I’m a hard-working guy. Feel like I’m very consistent. I feel as though I’ve found out that I tend to push myself more than I think, so it’s just a lot. There’s a lot to be consistent day by day, so you’ve got to bring it every day.”

LB Jaren Kanak

“Brent’s always watching us like every rep’s important. We take every rep like it’s a first-team rep, like it’s the last rep ever. Having that in the back of our head, even if he’s watching the eye in the sky is watching. The eye in the sky don’t lie. So we all take every rep and every opportunity we get and try to take advantage of that as much as we can.”

Cheetah Dasan McCullough

“I feel very confident in playing it. I feel like if we had a game today, I could play it and make it work. That’s words from Coach V and Coach Roof, without those guys’ help this whole summer, it wouldn’t be possible. This spring, I started off really slow and learning that process. Being here at camp, day 4, way more confident here in day 4 than in spring ball.”

Cheetah Justin Harrington

“The cheetah position, for me personally, honing it in and adapting to it, I just feel like it’s more of a physical toll on you than a mental toll. Obviously, you can put that mental toll on yourself just like I did. I can be more confident in where I know I need to be or where this ‘backer is going to be. Or the safety is outside me, so I need to be inside. Just knowing my job and knowing it to a tee. Knowing it until I don’t know.”
