SoonerScoop video: OU players post-practice (Texas week)
Oh, the Eyes of Texas are upon us for OU. And no, this is not like any other week. It’s time for the Red River Rivalry between 5-0 Texas and 5-0 OU.
Head coach Brent Venables has limited the media availability for his squad as these were the lone four players allowed to speak this week.
SoonerScoop was there Monday night to cover it all.
QB Dillon Gabriel
Balancing emotions on a week like this?
“I don’t know. I think there’s not such a thing in terms of, you know, when you get out there life happens and people get excited for the moment. But I think it’s just trying to stay present and on a schedule with how we prepare every week. And keeping it that way as much as possible.”
WR Drake Stoops
Leaving your mark on OU-Texas?
“I mean it’s an honor really. A pleasure, an honor. Just grateful for the opportunity, grateful for all my teammates, my coaches, everyone trusting me to be in a position in the past to make plays like that. I just trust in my training and feel prepared and capable and confident enough to go make plays like that. But it has nothing to do with now. I’m focused on putting my best foot forward come Saturday as part of Team 129, the 2023 Sooners.”

OG McKade Mettauer
Running backs and offensive line working together?
“Overall, the running backs have done a good job of working on setting up blocks for our double teams or if we’re going up on linebackers. They’re setting us up to where we don’t have to outrun the linebackers. We can just set up and basically the running backs can take them to us, and then they can bounce it out. So I think having the running backs in tune with us, I think they’ve done a good job. But obviously we can get better, and that will help the running game also.”
CB Woodi Washington
Being a Tennessee kid, when did you learn about what OU-Texas means?
“Really, a long time ago. My uncle used to be a Texas fan, so just watching that game growing up, it was always huge in my household, because he was rooting for them. Now I’m on the other side of it, kind of. It’s always been an exciting thing for me, especially when I got here as a freshman, just seeing the atmosphere of that game really changed my outlook on it.”
