SoonerScoop video: Taking you inside OU's Love's Field
We’re now in July, but the baseball and softball news for OU is not slowing down. Seems to be a growing trend across the board. Everything is turning into a 12-month, year-round ordeal.
But? It is all good news (so far) for OU when it comes to the latest developments.
This edition of Stickball from SoonerScoop breaks it all down, including getting a tour of the Love’s Field open house from Monday evening.
Johnson sticking around
The most noteworthy item of the week comes with baseball. Skip Johnson is going nowhere. Lookie Here, and it’s Johnson locked in at OU.
Rumors and reports were running rampant Friday afternoon about Johnson potentially being the new guy at Texas A&M.
By Saturday afternoon, everything had calmed down. Johnson had reaffirmed his commitment to OU. And maybe more importantly, OU had done the same with Johnson. We don’t want you to go anywhere, and we’ll show it.
OU’s baseball present and future remains in great hands.
Welcome to Love’s
Monday evening was the open house at Love’s Field, where just about everything was made available to the public.
From the hype tunnel to the locker rooms to the lounges, all on display. Just giving everybody a glimpse as to why it’s such a game-changer in the sport of softball.

Canady watch
When it comes to the on-field product for 2025 softball, the one name lingers. Former Stanford star pitcher NiJaree Canady has not made any decision just yet.
Hard to expect Canady, now with Team USA in Japan, to make any sort of choice in the near future. Will it go to August? Difficult to say. A lot of eyes go toward former Louisiana star pitcher Sam Landry. She’s the biggest name in the portal not named Canady.
If OU gets Landry or if some other school does, gives you some insight. Still continue to hear strong OU confidence in landing Canady. But the longer the wait, understandably, the more anxiety it will bring.
All that and more in this edition of Stickball from SoonerScoop.
