Oklahoma returns to L. Dale Mitchell Ballpark on Tuesday, following its best week of the year in which the Sooners won four games by run rule, outscoring Oklahoma State and Missouri by a combined score of 57-13.

The Sooners have won four in a row and six of its last seven, thanks in a large part to an offensive explosion where they’ve scored 82 runs. That’ll keep you in a lot of games, I think.

This week in the polls Oklahoma can be found checking in at No. 11 in Baseball America, No. 12 National Collegiate Baseball Writers, No. 13 USA Today, No. 14 D1Baseball and No. 16 Perfect Game.

Oklahoma hosts Oral Roberts for a midweek showdown on Tuesday before heading to Athens for a large (Thursday-Saturday) series against No. 10 Georgia.

Gaudy offensive numbers from Missouri sweep

Over the course of its three-game series at Missouri, Oklahoma scored 46 runs, hit 10 home runs and walked 25 times. But wait there’s more. The Sooners collected 46 hits with half (23) of the team’s hits going for extra bases.

Easton Carmichael and Jaxon Willits led the way offensively, combining to go 19-for-35 with 20 RBIs. Carmichael hit three home runs during Friday’s doubleheader.

In conference games only, Oklahoma ranks No. 4 offensively, posting a .277 team batting average. Willits ranks No. 2 in the conference with .394 batting average in 18 games. Carmichael’s 27 hits in conference play ranks him fourth in the SEC.

Dickerson named Freshman of the Week

Oklahoma’s four run-rule victories last week was undoubtedly led by Willits and Carmichael, but the biggest development in the Sooners lineup has been the continued emergence of freshman designated hitter Drew Dickerson. He was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday along with Florida’s Brendan Lawson.

The Lee’s Summit native returned to his home state and delivered a career weekend, going 7-for-14 with five RBIs and his second home run of the season. Dickerson also walked three times and scored seven runs.

On the year, Dickerson is now hitting .314 with seven extra-base hits, two home runs and 12 RBIs in 23 games played.

It will be interesting to see how Oklahoma uses Dickerson over the final four weekends of the year with an expectation Scott Mudler will return to full service in the coming weeks.
