Tight end Bauer Sharp transferring to OU
If there was one position you knew OU was going to hit in the transfer portal, it was tight end. The Sooners absolutely needed to add a piece or two for Brent Venables in 2024..
It might be coming from a strange direction, but it’s a solid addition. Former Southeastern Louisiana tight end Bauer Sharp announced his commitment to OU on Monday morning.
Sharp announced for the transfer portal Nov. 22, and interest picked up quickly. Numerous Power Five schools came into the picture, including the Sooners.
He began his career at quarterback before converting to the tight end position. He had 11 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown in 2022. This year? He took it up a notch with 29 catches for 288 yards and three touchdowns.
Those numbers don’t sound too impressive, but SLU did have a rather run-heavy offense. And OU tight ends didn’t have that much production this season.
The position combined for 20 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Sharp graded out as the No. 3 overall tight end by Pro Football Focus.
Sharp becomes the fifth portal addition for the Sooners. He joins offensive tackle Spencer Brown (Michigan State), defensive back Dez Malone (San Diego State), wide receiver Deion Burks (Purdue) and running back Samuel Franklin (UT-Martin).
