Video: National media shares thoughts on Oklahoma at SEC Media Days

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – SoonerScoop.com has taken over SEC Media Days, looking to find out if Oklahoma is ready to play in college football’s toughest conference.

Oklahoma and Texas are set to join the Southeastern Conference in 2024, following their final season in the Big 12. The Sooners and Longhorns are changing the landscape of college football. And that’s all the buzz at SEC Media Days this week. The two schools are leaving the Big 12 a year earlier than anticipated after both the Big 12 and the schools decided that was for the best. In Oklahoma’s 27 years in the Big 12, it has won 14 conference championships in football. Oklahoma hopes to make it 15 in its final season in the conference.

Scoop caught up with several national media members Wednesday asking their thoughts on Oklahoma’s future in the SEC, expectations for the 2023 season, and impressions of coach Brent Venables as he enters his second season in Norman. Most of the media agreed Oklahoma will be ready for the move. But have some concerns about the direction of the program heading into Year 2 under Venables. It’s clear, the 2023 season will be pivotal for the Sooners. That’s why Venables brought in several players from the transfer portal in the offseason. The hope is that those players will provide some “competitive depth” and help Oklahoma’s efficiency in 2023. And if Oklahoma can get on track in 2023, it will only help it succeed in the SEC in 2024.

SoonerScoop.com’s George Stoia and Eddie Radosevich broke down the first day of SEC Media Days on Wednesday. And they shared some of the insight they got from national college football media personalities Andy Staples of On3, Dari Nowkhah of SEC Network, and Ryan McGee of ESPN.
