Oklahoma is only 24 days away from kicking off the 2023 season and there are still a lot of questions unanswered.

Who will start at receiver? How much better can the defense be? What will happen at the cheetah position? Can Dillon Gabriel improve at quarterback? The SoonerScoop.com crew was at Oklahoma practice Monday to try and find out those answers in more, as Oklahoma concluded its sixth practice of fall camp. Scoop’s Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia break down everything they saw at practice this week and what they heard from post-practice interviews with Gabriel, offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, wide receiver Jalil Farooq, defensive end Rondell Bothroyd, and others.

Gabriel enters his second season at Oklahoma with high expectations, after a disappointing 2022 season. He has a chance to finish as a top 10 passer in college football history. But right now, his mind is elsewhere.

“Fortunately, none of that matters,” Gabriel said. “The name of the game is it’s a team sport. That’s all I’m focused on is winning and having fun with my brothers. Just keeping it simple and maintaining that. The rest will take care of itself. So for me, it’s finding ways to go 1-0 every week. That’s what keeps everyone happy.”

The Scoop crew also spoke with Bothroyd after Oklahoma practice Tuesday. And the Wake Forest transfer is high on his position group at Oklahoma heading into the season.

“Our depth is crazy,” Bothroyd said. “I think we have depth probably up there in the top of the country and just the way we pay attention to details. Coach Chavis, Coach Bates, they demand the best out of us every day regardless of how you feel, regardless of what’s going on, so I think we’re relentless and our depth is probably the one thing I would say.”
