What they said: OU players following 66-17 win at Tulsa
That was the dominating effort OU and its fans were hoping for going to Tulsa. The Sooners offense and defense rolled early and often en route to the 66-17 victory.
The SoonerScoop crew was out in full force for the postgame interviews. Here is the best of the best from the players after the win. Brent Venables is 3-0 once again.
QB Dillon Gabriel
Offensive tempo, rhythm?
“Making plays. Turning short passes into chunks. That’s why I think we played with a really good tempo. When we can put it all together, it’s a beautiful thing to see.”
WR Jalil Farooq
Bouncing back after fumbled kickoff?
“You know, just me being able to—like I said earlier, just me being able to let the mistake be a mistake, learn from it. It’s always the guy you don’t see; next time I got to close-grip tuck, you feel me? So, just being able to respond, I felt good after my touchdown, so just being able to keep my head in the game, stay focused and not let a mistake tear me down.”

How Miguel Chavis is helping his progress?
“Coach Chavis, you know a very good coach. Something that I think separates him a lot from most is he really cares about us on the field and what we do off. Very affectionate towards us and all he wants is our success. And he’s very technical in how he teaches us how to rush. It’s a process, it’s get off, then a move, a counter at QB depth and he just stresses that to us every day, and I feel like he does a very good job with that.”
LB Danny Stutsman
The crowd giving you guys a lift?
“That was great, man. They had that kind of sack, intentional grounding, and then to be able to come out when it was quiet and hype up our own fans on an away game, that’s awesome. That’s electric. Then after that, it was all smooth sailing. We had a lot of stops after that first drive of the second half, really played together as a team, especially when these young guys came in, the standard didn’t change.”
WR Nic Anderson
LB Jaren Kanak
Confidence after five interceptions?
“Obviously, getting that many turnovers are a big deal for us. But like I said earlier, we’re more worried about a next play mentality, a next rep mentality. So it gives us confidence going into next series, but it’s also like a humble confidence, like ‘OK, we did that so let’s go do it again.’ You know what I mean? Like we did it one time we could do it again. But we’re not owed anything. We have to go earn it. We have to go take it.”
