Wide receiver Ivan Carreon commits to OU
OU wasn’t about to leave June without one more commitment, and neither was wide receivers coach Emmett Jones.
The Sooners struck once again as Odessa (Texas) High receiver Ivan Carreon announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Friday afternoon.
Carreon, a four-star prospect, had been committed to Texas Tech since December. However, the writing was on the wall after he announced his decommitment from the Red Raiders late Thursday evening.
He becomes the fifth pledge in the last two weeks for OU, and he’s another example of why camping in Norman under head coach Brent Venables matters.
Carreon did just that earlier this month, earning the offer. The connection to Jones is an easy one to make since Jones was recruiting Carreon when Jones was calling the receiver shots in Lubbock.
He brings tremendous size at 6-foot-6 and 195 pounds. And Carreon is someone who has quietly gone under the radar despite his high rankings across the board.
Heading into Friday, OU and Purdue appeared to be the ones to watch. The Sooners aren’t going to lose that race too often.

Carreon is ranked No. 217 overall in the industry composite rankings and No. 231 overall and No. 42 wide receiver by On3.
He becomes the fourth wide receiver for the 2024 class. Carreon is also the second one, joining Dozie Ezukanma, to camp and get the offer from OU this month and commit. Zion Kearney and K.J. Daniels are also in the fold. The interesting part is OU is still in the running for more elite guys, but that will be a discussion for another day.
Tech made a last-minute effort to keep Carreon in the last couple of weeks, but it just wasn’t enough. OU continues to ride the wave of momentum since the #ChampUBBQ.
And the good news for OU fans is that it shouldn’t slow down. Closing June strong and getting ready for July to be a scorcher as well.
