Xavier Robinson commits to Sooners
If there’s one position to watch for the Sooners during this dead recruiting period, it’s running back. It’s time for those dominoes to start falling.
OU’s first piece is in the fold. Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert running back Xavier Robinson announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Tuesday evening.
Robinson chose OU at a school ceremony, with OU beating out Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Notre Dame, among others. The Fighting Irish were definitely the biggest threat.
Everybody knew the June visits were going to help running backs coach DeMarco Murray figure out what he needed to do going forward. Robinson was incredibly high on ISU, but OU hadn’t taken its best shot yet.
Robinson wasn’t a #ChampUBBQ visitor. But let’s call it #ChampUBBQ-adjacent because Robinson came in just a few days before the event. He was the only official visitor at the time, so he got the full red-carpet treatment and attention from head coach Brent Venables and company.
It’s a nice win for the Sooners, and a great way for Robinson to show he was right. There was some speculation before the 2022 season about whether Robinson was a running back or should move to linebacker.

Robinson shut that up in a hurry last season. He rushed for 2,594 yards and 39 touchdowns in helping the Titans to another state championship. He averaged 9.4 yards per carry and 185.3 yards per game in the process.
OU made the offer Jan. 27, and then it was just about building the relationship as always.
Robinson is a consensus three-star prospect and ranked as the sixth-best prospect in the state, based on the industry composite.
The Sooners are definitely hoping they’re not done with the running back spot. OU also hosted Duncanville (Texas) High’s Caden Durham and Longview (Texas) High’s Taylor Tatum during the month. OU would take all three.
The goal is to get all three. Robinson making his call crosses off the first part of that list.
Robinson is the ninth commitment for the class. A class that should grow quite a bit in the days and weeks to come.
