Ole Miss and head coach Kermit Davis are in the midst of completing a forgettable 2021-2022 regular season this weekend. But the Rebels are getting their own one shining moment despite probably not being a member of the 68-team field this month, adding the 76th overall prospect to their 2022 class with the addition of four-star point guard, Amaree Abram.

The Humble, Tex., prospect chose the Rebels over finalists DePaul, Louisville, Maryland and St. John’s on Saturday via his Twitter. Abram transferred to play his senior season at Los Angeles (Calif) So Cal Academy. In November, he decommitted from Texas A&M and opened up his recruitment. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard also took an official visit to Louisville and an unofficial to DePaul.

Abram has been a part of an outstanding backcourt, helping the Rams to a 22-4 regular season as they are still in contention for the GEICO Nationals tournament that starts March 31. One of his backcourt mates is fellow 2022 Ole Miss commit, Robert Cowherd, who signed with the Rebels in September.

On3 Sports’ national recruiting analyst, Jamie Shaw, writes about Abram’s game and how the creative freedom and style of play at Ole Miss was the main draw for Abram.

Abram has spoken a lot about the style of play in his decision. He got a good feeling for their system and the freedom they give their guards on his visit.

The staff did a great job of building a relationship with Abram. Ole Miss also signed his high school teammate Robert Cowherd, so there is some familiarity. The program has felt cautiously optimistic about this recruitment since his official visit.

The newest member of Ole Miss’ 2022 class spoke with On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton about his December official visit and what stood out to him about Oxford and the university.

“The visit was real great man. They have a great coaching staff and a great group of guys. It’s in the SEC. I think I would fit in the SEC system, especially theirs. Like I said, a lot of schools want me to come in and be a key factor. I know they have guards but I think me and those guards could be big names in the SEC. They want me to come in and make an impact from the start.”

The former Texas A&M commit brings a lot to Ole Miss’ 2022 class. Abram does a little bit of everything for SCA, displaying impressive on-ball defense and running the floor well on both ends. He has a mature frame (180 pounds) and is adept at creating his own shot off the ball and off the bounce as well. His long frame gives him an edge when getting to the rim and finishing in traffic and he’s very crafty, avoiding defenders attempts to alter and/or block his shot.

His game really took a big step during his senior season as he really honed in on his defensive approach and aggressiveness, getting to the rim and finishing with authority. Abram is also exceptional as a distributor, using his ability to drive through the lane, draw the defense and open things up for teammates on the wings and/or the interior.

The Rebels will be looking to replace seniors Tye Fagan and Jarkel Joiner in the backcourt next season.
