2022 At a Glance: Ole Miss heads down to the bayou to take on Brian Kelly and LSU
NOTE: This series is giving an overview of Ole Miss football’s 2022 opponents. Next up is a quick glance at LSU which with new coach Brian Kelly hosts Ole Miss for a late-October showdown.
Once the calendar flips to October there is nothing easy about the final eight games on Ole Miss’ 2022 schedule. Eight straight SEC opponents with a bye week mixed in is a murderer’s row of sorts.
November is the worst of the two final regular season months but final stretch of October presents two road games that could dictate which direction Ole Miss will head to close out the year.
First up is a trip to Baton Rouge, La. to face LSU and first-year head coach Brian Kelly. Kelly comes to the SEC for the first time in his coaching career after a lengthy stay in South Bend, Ind. as the head man of Notre Dame’s football program.
By the time Ole Miss rolls into town on Oct. 22 Kelly should have his SEC sea legs firmly under him. LSU will play four conference games before the Rebels get to Death Valley.

When the two teams met last year Ole Miss got its first win over LSU since 2015 and snapped a five-game losing streak.
Beating the Tigers inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is tough but has been accomplished by Ole Miss more than when they try to get a win in enemy territory. Those come few and far between.
The Tigers have not lost to the Rebels inside Tiger Stadium since 2008. That was the game where the late Jevan Snead threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns and snapped a three-game skid for the Rebels in Baton Rouge.
In order to accomplish this rare feat Ole Miss will need to have its offense all sorted out well before they head south to Louisiana. And by offense it is reference to the months-long quarterback battle between Jaxson Dart and Luke Altmyer. Though before September comes and goes that should be settled, hopefully.

Of course there are plenty of things to get sorted out for the team who will be standing on the home sideline.
Kelly is entering his first season at LSU and also inheriting some issues that were left behind by former head coach Ed Orgeron.
The Tigers also have a quarterback issue on their hands but got some help in sifting the depth chart earlier this week. Myles Brennan announced he was stepping away from football after failing to secure the starting quarterback job over the fast few seasons at LSU.
Brennan had entered the portal twice but always opted to remain in Baton Rouge. Arizona State senior transfer Jayden Daniels and redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier are now the two fighting out for the starting job.
Plenty of intrigue surrounds this game for Ole Miss. How will the Rebels’ record look heading into it after getting through non-conference, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Auburn?
Closing out October at LSU and then Texas A&M on Halloween Weekend is a tough ask before getting to November where they start it with Alabama.
