NOTE: This series is giving an overview of Ole Miss football’s 2022 opponents.Next up is a quick glance at Texas A&M. The late-October matchup in College Station may require the popcorn.

Earlier this year there were some words said by both Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher regarding the NIL and certain teams final recruiting numbers.

When the verbal sparring started between the two it somehow ended with Nick Saban and Fisher getting into it and Kiffin becoming a spectator.

Will any of this matter or have any residual effects when Ole Miss travels to College Station Halloween weekend to take on the Aggies?

Probably not, but it is fun to imagine how that end game handshake at midfield might go between Kiffin and Fisher.

In reality the focus will be, and should be, on the two teams playing at Kyle Field as the final game of October is could be extremely crucial for both.

Ole Miss will be coming off a trip to Baton Rouge and a game against LSU at Tiger Stadium and could be looking to go 2-0 on the road trip before entering its bye week.

When the two teams met in Oxford last season Ole Miss came away with the 29-19 victory and the first since 2015.

Those two wins are the only ones for Ole Miss in the 11 game series between the two programs.

Fisher put together one of the top recruiting classes in the country and expectations are very high for him and the Aggies this year.

The Aggies lost quarterback Zach Calzada who transferred to Auburn this offseason but they gained Max Johnson who transferred in from LSU.

Ole Miss fared well against Calzada in last year’s meeting against the Aggies. The Rebel defense also kept Johnson in check when playing LSU, holding the former Tigers quarterback to under 150 passing yards.

It is safe to say there may be a lot of tricks and treats when Ole Miss and the Aggies face off to close the books on October.
