2024 WR Skylar Townsend “would love an opportunity” to play at Ole Miss
Tanner, Ala., 2024 wide receiver Skylar Townsend has a sister attending Ole Miss.
So, Saturday, when he took an unofficial visit, wasn’t his first taste of what the Rebels have to offer.
Still, he was in town anyway to check out an eventual 48-34 Ole Miss win over Auburn. The Rebels are 7-0 (3-0 SEC) for just the second time since the 60s and next travel to LSU (5-2, 3-1) Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS.
“I liked the atmosphere,” Townsend told the Ole Miss Spirit. “The offense stands out to me. I really like (third-year Ole Miss head coach Lane) Kiffin’s offense.”
Preview and Prediction: Will Ole Miss land On3 Consensus four-star Marvin Burks Jr.?
Townsend couldn’t have picked a much better game, if an up-close look at the Ole Miss offense was what he was looking for.
While they didn’t sling the ball around through the air yardage-wise (quarterback Jaxson Dart finished with just 130), they did pass for three touchdowns. The Rebels moved up to consensus No. 7 in Top 25 polls released this week following the win.
They also produced three 100-yard rushers in a single game for the first time since at least the 70s. Dart was one. Running backs Quinshon Judkins and Zach Evans were the others.

Dart, a transfer from USC, also completed passes to five different receivers in what was his ninth career start and sixth at Ole Miss. Among them was Louisville transfer wide receiver Jordan Watkins, who led the team in receptions (4) and was second in yards (43).
“I would really love an opportunity to play there,” Townsend said.
Ole Miss, if it wasn’t obvious, hasn’t offered yet.
But Western Kentucky has, and Townsend said he’s hearing from Troy, Coastal Carolina, Kentucky, Charlotte, Auburn, Cincinnati, South Alabama and UNA.
Kentucky, Troy and Charlotte are “probably” recruiting him the hardest.
“What I’m looking for in a school is a place me and my family feels comfortable with,” Townsend said, adding he’ll next visit Auburn, Troy and Charlotte. He’s currently unranked by On3.
“I hope to be able to be in a position to make a decision before next season.”
