Saint Joseph Catholic (Miss.) quarterback Emile Picarella may have arrived at the Elite 11 regional in Baton Rouge as relatively unknown by those in attendance but by the time he left, his name was highlighted, jotted down and then some after his impressive showing at Parkview Baptist High School last weekend.

“I did well,” Picarella said. “You can always fix stuff and I have a good idea of what I need to work on but overall I did well.”

The 6-foot-2, 185 pound quarterback started two games as an 8th-grader for Saint Joseph Catholic and took on a bigger role a year later as a freshman. Since then, he has received two offers and is starting to hear from more programs across the country.

“Akron and Oregon have offered,” Picarella said. “I’m also hearing a good bit from Florida State and Miami.”

The early offers have one thing in common: Joe Moorhead. The former Mississippi State head coach who took the offensive coordinator job with the Ducks before becoming the head man in Ohio likes the young signal caller.

“We have a good connection,” Picarella said. “I need to call him this week. …it’s always good to chat with him, we just love talking ball.”

Despite playing his high school ball in Madison, Miss., he hasn’t heard much from the in-state schools. For now.

“They have yet to reach out but if they do I will listen,” Picarella said. “If they invite me to campus for a visit or a camp I am there.”

Picarella has no plans of making any decision in terms of a timeline or top-schools list. He tells OMSpirit that he is just ready to get back to work and to continue to get better.

“I’m going to take my time and explore any and every opportunity.”
