‘A lot to like’: National college basketball analyst a fan of Chris Beard’s Ole Miss portal haul
Zach Berry of the Ole Miss Spirit is joined by On3 national college basketball analyst Jamie Shaw in this edition of #notcommitted.
Shaw breaks down Chris Beard’s Ole Miss transfer-portal haul so far, including Saint Peter’s point guard Jaylen Murray, who committed this week. He also dishes out his potential breakout stars for next season and considers how Matthew Murrell and Jamey Brakefield fit in Beard’s system.
“Wrapping up Jaylen Murray was big,” Shaw said. “That kind of rounds out the players. He’s the point guard. They have great wings, rim-protecting bigs (and) guys that have experience and age. They needed that sure-fire point guard. Grabbing Murray rounds out that group.
“I don’t know that they necessarily have a single stud as opposed to a depth of quality players. Brandon Murray is a bucket-getter. He can really score the basketball. Moussa Cisse and Jamarion Sharp are probably two of the Top 5 rim-protectors in college basketball. To have them both in the front court together is a huge asset for Ole Miss on the defensive end.

“When mixing in the guys Ole Miss has returning, as well as the transfer-portal guys, on paper, this team has shot-making, rim-protection, defense and experience. There’s a lot to like about what Chris Beard’s been able to put together.”
