A now-Jammin’ Ole Miss offense and other add-on photos from Saturday’s preseason scrimmage
Ole Miss scrimmaged for the first time this preseason on Saturday and now turns to its third week of training camp.
And the final week before classes start.
It’s all building up to the Rebels’ season-opening showdown with Mercer September 2 at 1 p.m. CT.
“I thought (the defense) came out there with a lot of energy and a lot of juice, created I think three turnovers today,” Ole Miss associate head coach and wide receivers Derrick Nix said afterwards. “Saw some guys up front like Cedric Johnson go back there and close the pocket a few times.
“For our first scrimmage, I thought it was pretty good.”
Nix served as acting head coach for the scrimmage.
Kiffin handled Nix’s typical wide-receiver duties. Kiffin said the 24-hour showcase for Nix was intended, in part, to bring attention to the lack of diversity among head coaches in college football.
