Long-time NFL quarterback Jameis Winston seemed to have the time of his life as a correspondent for FOX Sports during Super Bowl week.

FOX essentially handed Winston a microphone, followed him with a camera and set him loose in New Orleans in advance of the Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant, 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were vying for the third straight title.

All-time Ole Miss great AJ Brown and Co. had other ideas. Brown had three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown. He became the first non-quarterback Rebel in history to score multiple touchdowns in Super Bowl games.

“We came out and we said, ‘We can’t rewrite history, but we can make it even.’ And we damn sure did tonight,” Brown said afterwards.

Among Winston’s many stops during the week was Super Bowl Media Day. In an interview with Brown Winston suggested a ‘Cha Cha Slide’ celebration should Brown score a touchdown.

“At family reunions we talk about a Cha Cha Slide,” Winston said. “I want you to slide to the left, slide to the right, criss cross, eat a ‘W’ and walk off that thing.”

“I got you,” Brown said.

Brown is a man of his word.

He broke into the dance after his score, the first for either team in the game. Brown, 27, is one of 15 Rebels to win a Super Bowl. He’s only the seventh to play in two or more.

His 139 combined receiving yards are the most for any Rebel in Super Bowls.

“We got that from Jameis,” Brown said afterwards. “Shout-out to Jameis.”

Ole Miss has now been represented in 24 of 60 Super Bowls. The others to show up in two are Allen Brown, Andrew Townsend, Willie Green, Nate Wayne, Eli Manning and Brandon Bolden. Bolden (3) has the most of all Rebels.

Brown this year went over 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth time in six NFL seasons.

He landed All-Pro honors for the third straight time.

Brown’s touchdown celebration was but a small piece of an unforgettable experience for arguably the greatest wide receiver in Ole Miss history. Brown was a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist his final season and finished third in career receptions (189) and fifth in receiving touchdowns (19). He’s the only Ole Miss receiver on record with 60 or more receptions in back-to-back seasons.

Brown grew up a New England Patriots fan. He also received a personalized letter from former Patriot wide receiver Julian Edelman.

“It meant the world to me,” Brown said. “This guy is very special to me. I watched him year after year — him and Tom (Brady). Those guys are very special to me.”
