Saturday was set to be a day where Ole Miss was heading for the elite air of the college football world, beating Florida would set it up for a very important Egg Bowl.

But now the No. 15-ranked Rebels are fighting for its ninth win to close out the regular season and see where the chips fall when it comes to as good a bowl bid as it can get or somehow backdoor their way into the College Football Playoffs after Saturday’s chaos.

The reality is Ole Miss (8-3, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) is back on the outside looking in and that means the bowl projections are not what any Rebel fans were expecting to see in late November.

Sunday and Monday’s latest projections are all over the map with the Rebels heading back to Florida, going up to Nashville, Las Vegas or even a return trip to Houston.

Yikes, indeed with the anticipation of the 2024 campaign.

The ReliaQuest Bowl (formerly the Outback Bowl) is a favorite this week with Ole Miss receiving three projections back to Tampa and Raymond James Stadium.

Another Florida projection is Jacksonville to play in the Gator Bowl.

Some of these will get weeded out or elevated if the Rebels can defeat Mississippi State in this week’s egg bowl and get to 9-3. Maybe even a slither of hope watching next weekend’s championship Saturday as far as the CFP is concerned.
