Somehow the 2024-25 college basketball season is already a month old and Ole Miss is putting the finishing touches on its non-conference slate, starting with the SEC/ACC Challenge this week.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are off to strong starts and ranked No. 23 and No. 18 in their respective Associated Press Polls.

The men are heading to Louisville on Tuesday (8 p.m. CT tipoff on the ACC Network) after splitting the pair of games in San Diego. An overtime win over BYU on Thanksgiving followed by a last-second loss to then No. 13 Purdue.

The Rebels went 6-1 in the first month of the season and in a good position to continue the momentum ahead of Southeastern Conference play starting against Georgia on January 4.

The NET rankings debuted on Monday and Ole Miss is No. 55 with a 1-1 record in Quad 1 and 5-0 in Quad 4. The Cardinals (5-2) are No. 30 and present another good road opportunity for the Rebels.

Before Tuesday’s game tips off, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi updated his ‘Bracketology,’ a projection of how he sees the NCAA Tournament bracket shaping up.

Lunardi bumped Ole Miss up to the 7 Seed in the Midwest Region (Indianapolis). The Rebels would play in the Cleveland quadrant for the first and second rounds, taking on 10 Seed Saint Mary’s and then the winner of 2 Seed Marquette and 15 Seed Purdue Fort Wayne if they were to advance.

This is the first time the Rebels have been higher than the 8 Seed in Lunardi’s projections, dating back to his monthly updates immediately after last season ended in March.

Ole Miss is once again on track to make history with its basketball programs.

Never has bot the men’s and women’s team made the NCAA Tournament in the same season. Similar to last year, this season is starting off with the trend of ending that streak.

The women’s team is coming off splitting its games in the Bahamas last week. A blowout win over Boston College was followed up by a 13-point loss to No. 2 UConn, dropping its second game against a top 3 team this season.

Ole Miss (5-2) returned home and took out its frustrations on Alabama State with a 65-point win on Sunday, the largest margin of victory in program history.

After the first month of the season the Rebels are No. 18 in the first batch of NET rankings. They take on North Carolina State in Raleigh on Thursday and the Wolfpack (4-3) are No. 29 in the NET, offering up a good road opportunity.

ESPN’s Charlie Creme also updated his ‘Bracketology’ on Tuesday but bumped down Ole Miss out of a hosting spot to the 5 Seed in Region 2 Spokane. The Rebels would start the NCAA Tournament in Morgantown and play 12 Seed James Madison in the first round. The winner would play the winner between host team and 4 Seed West Virgina and 13 Seed Missouri State, per Creme.

Ole Miss opens up SEC play at Auburn on January 2.

Still a whole lot of basketball to be played but both programs are positioned well heading into December and conference play.
