Next weekend marks the midway point of Southeastern Conference play but the 2025 baseball season has reached its overall halfway mark and so far, so good for No. 9 Ole Miss.

A strong start to the SEC season with their best start through nine games in four years the Rebels have looked like a much-improved team as the calendar flips to April. There is roughly a month and a half, and seven SEC weekends, of the regular season remaining but a postseason outlook is positive for Ole Miss, at the moment.

Given we have reached the bulk of the conference season the projections and predictions for how this year’s NCAA Tournament field of 64 teams will shake out are now rolling out on a weekly basis.

Baseball America has released two so far and D1Baseball usually starts once the SEC season hits its midpoint, which is next weekend.

Due to the strong start and early-season success over non-conference ranked opponents Ole Miss (22-6, 6-3 SEC) has moved itself into the hosting conversation. After another 3-1 week last week, including a series win over Florida, the Rebels have only strengthened that position.

They have started this week off 1-0 with Tuesday’s run-rule win over Jackson State.

“A lot of guys swinging the bat well throughout the lineup,” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said on Tuesday. “Obviously, Mitch (Sanford) has been on fire, but guys on certain nights have also been really good. (Isaac) Humphrey and Judd (Utermark) and others. I think when that happens, we’ll talk about it throughout the lineup, we can be pretty good.”

In this week’s Baseball America’s projected Field of 64 Ole Miss moved up five spots to a projected No. 10 National Seed for the tournament. This prediction moves it closer to a Top 8 National Seed, which would allow for a potential Super Regional in Oxford.

Long way to go, I know.

The three teams coming to Oxford in the projection include Kansas State as the Regional 2 Seed, Virginia (3) and Central Connecticut (4). The Oxford Regional is paired with the Clemson, South Carolina Regional and No. 7 National Seed Tigers.

Ole Miss currently has a RPI ranking of 8 with a 5-4 record against Quad 1 teams, but is 0-2 against Quad 2 opponents at the moment. The Rebels have a chance to improve those records at Kentucky this weekend, starting on Thursday. The Wildcats are currently No. 48 in the RPI.
