Saturday’s loss to Mississippi State continues to affect the NCAA Tournament path for No. 24 Ole Miss.

The 10-point loss to the in-state rival caused the Rebels to drop in Monday’s latest Top 25 rankings and Tuesday brought about more of the same in the ‘Bracketology’ updates.

Ahead of the game against the Bulldogs ESPN’s Joe Lunardi had Ole Miss (19-7, 8-5 Southeastern Conference) among the 5 Seeds and just outside of being gone of the overall Top 16 Seeds of the tournament. But after the loss Lunardi dropped the Rebels down to the 6 Seed of the South Region (Atlanta) in Tuesday’s projections.

Ole Miss would be facing 11 Seed UC San Diego in Milwaukee for a first round matchup. A potential second round matchup would be between the winner of 3 Seed Wisconsin or 14 Seed Towson.

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports updated his NCAA Tournament projections on Monday and also sending the Rebels down a notch. He put them as the 6 Seed in the West Region (San Francisco) but also starting in Milwaukee.

Ole Miss would face 11 Seed Wake Forest with a potential second round matchup against 3 Seed Iowa State or 14 Seed Utah Valley.

After a week off the Rebels will return to action for their final five regular season games, starting on Saturday at Vanderbilt (17-8, 5-7) at 2:30 p.m. CT

The Rebels have been hovering around a top 4 Seed and potentially hosting the first and second rounds in Oxford next month.

A prime chance to move into that conversation was there for the taking for the Rebels but an 80-71 loss to No. 15 Tennessee snuffed it out. The Volunteers were named the 16th overall Seed by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee on Sunday.

With that ESPN’s Charlie Creme bumped Ole Miss (17-8, 8-5) down to the 6 Seed of the Region 4 Spokane, starting in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Rebels would play 11 Seed Columbia in the first round. A potential second round matchup would be between the winner of host team and 3 Seed North Carolina State and 14 Seed Green Bay.

They will return to action on Sunday after a weekend, hosting Missouri (13-14, 2-10) at 2 p.m. CT.
