Bracket Watch: Ole Miss still trending towards making NCAA Tournament in new 'Bracketology'
The last three games have been rough for the Ole Miss men’s basketball but all is not lost when it comes to trying to snap a five-year absence in the NCAA Tournament.
Despite losing three straight Southeastern Conference games since beating No. 4 Alabama on the road two weeks ago the No. 23-ranked Rebels (15-5, 4-3 SEC) are still among the higher seeds in the latest tournament projections.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and CBS Sports Jerry Palm each has Ole Miss as a 6 Seed in their new ‘Bracketology’ updates released on Monday and Tuesday. In fact both have the Rebels in the Midwest Region (Indianapolis), too.
Lundardi did drop the Rebels from a 5 Seed where he had them in last Friday’s update. In Tuesday’s projections Ole Miss is matched up with 11 Seed in Wichita, Kansas against either Ohio State or North Carolina. The Buckeyes and Tar Heels are part of the Last Four In and matched up in the First Four to determine that 11 Seed. Whichever team gets out of the first round would play the winner between 3 Seed Kansas and 14 Seed Northern Colorado.
Where Palm differentiates from Lundari is he puts Ole Miss in Denver for the first two rounds, pairing them with 11 Seed UC Irvine. Also in that quadrant is 3 Seed Houston and 14 Seed UNC-Asheville.
Ole Miss resumes its schedule on Wednesday, hosting Texas (14-6, 3-4) at 8 p.m. CT before No. 1 Auburn (18-1, 6-0) comes to Oxford on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. Both Lunardi and Palm have the Longhorns among the Last Four In and the Tigers are the overall No. 1 Seed.

Ole Miss women’s team sees no change in latest ‘Bracketology’
After blowing the chance at upsetting No. 7 Texas on Sunday the Rebels snapped a two-game winning streak in SEC play, but the postseason is still well in reach.
ESPN’s Charlie Creme released his newest projections on Monday and Ole Miss (13-6, 4-3) was still a 6 Seed in Region 3 Birmingham.
The first and second round games for the Rebels would be in College Park, Maryland against either Iowa State or Iowa who would play a First Four game to earn the 11 Seed for that region. The winner in the first round would play the winner between No. 3 Seed, and host team, Maryland and No. 14 Seed Norfolk State.
The Rebels are No. 11 in the latest NET rankings and are on the road this week at Georgia (9-12, 1-6) on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT then at Vanderbilt (17-4, 4-3) on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.
