Last week when the first batch of College Football Playoff rankings were released Ole Miss was considered the third team out and still had a pulse ahead of the Georgia game.

Well Saturday the Rebels did their best Undertaker impression arose from the CFP dead with a 28-10 dismantling of the Bulldogs. Everything is back on track in Oxford.

But with the win to get to 8-2 overall, keeping the 10-2 record alive, where does that put Ole Miss as the CFP rankings enter week two on Tuesday?

If the Sunday polls are any indication then it should put the Rebels right back in the conversation and inside the Top 12 heading into its bye weekend.

The first CFP Top 25 mirrored the Associated Press poll at the top. The first six teams were basically identical and the Rebels were No. 16 in each, too.

Going off that logic it would seem as if they are heading for a big jump of six spots to No. 10 in this week’s CFP rankings. That would be a compromise of the AP ranking and the Coaches poll ranking of No. 11 this past Sunday.

If that is where Ole Miss lands then it is sitting pretty heading into an open date with a key SEC matchup that includes the aforementioned Georgia taking on Tennessee in Athens. One of those teams losing will help the Rebels but Tuesdays CFP rankings will paint a better picture of which team losing would help more.

There are not many other key Top 25 matchups across the country this week that could help Ole Miss beyond that SEC marquee game. A sneaky game could be No. 5 Texas at Arkansas.

Beyond that it is a light slate of Top 25 games this weekend. No. 2 Ohio State takes on Northwestern, No. 6 Penn State plays Purdue, No. 10 Notre Dame plays Virginia and No. 11 Alabama hosts Mercer.

Going by On3’s Thomas Goldkamp’s CFP Top 25 projections for Tuesday that is the same logic, though he puts the Rebels at No. 11 with the Bulldogs just behind at No. 12. His rankings would push Georgia as the first team out with Boise State getting that 12th spot as the highest ranked Group of 5 team at No. 13.

Below is On3’s full CFP Top 25 projections:

  1. Oregon (10-0)
  2. Ohio State (8-1)
  3. Texas (8-1)
  4. Penn State (8-1)
  5. Tennessee (8-1)
  6. Indiana (10-0)
  7. BYU (9-0)
  8. Notre Dame (8-1)
  9. Miami (9-1)
  10. Alabama (7-2)
  11. Ole Miss (8-2)
  12. Georgia (7-2)
  13. Boise State (8-1)
  14. SMU (8-1)
  15. Texas A&M (7-2)
  16. Kansas State (7-2)
  17. Colorado (7-2)
  18. Washington State (8-1)
  19. Clemson (7-2)
  20. Army (9-0)
  21. Louisville (6-3)
  22. LSU (6-3)
