Per On3’s Pete Nakos, Ole Miss signed one of the top available quarterbacks in the transfer portal on Tuesday, landing Ferris State quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. Chambliss helped Ferris State win a Division II national title this season.

Chambliss was a second-team All-American in 2024, throwing for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,019 yards and 25 touchdowns. Another school in the mix for Chambliss was Temple.

Ole Miss added quarterback Pierce Clarkson from the transfer portal and Louisville in the winter, but the Rebels need more quarterback depth added. Lane Kiffin and his staff got that with Chambliss jumping into the fold.

Chambliss has two years of eligibility remaining.

Ole Miss just beginning transfer portal push

On April 16, the NCAA Transfer Portal spring window opens. Another flurry of activity is set to begin for not only Ole Miss, but plenty of programs across the country.

Among the other needs that the Rebels must fill are offensive line, secondary and other best-available type of opportunities to add to the roster. With Chambliss on board, that takes care of a key need.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was frustrated with the current state of the NCAA House Settlement Case. The Rebels are also battling injuries, including one to backup quarterback AJ Maddox, which makes evaluations tricky for the spring portal window. It was important to add more depth to the position for this season though.

“We’re seeing a lot. There’s some injuries I wish we’d have some better evals on, including a couple of new guys that haven’t done anything. But there’s so much unknown on that part of the portal coming and the judgement,” Kiffin said last week. “You’re always concerned of your own guys. I think we’re fortunate that a while back when the SEC rule was made, that was a really good decision, because I think all coaches are concerned this time of year of their own players, and that would obviously have set up a bad system of eating their own and not just eating their own, driving prices up.”
