Former Ole Miss guards Matthew Murrell and Allen Flanigan earn NBA G League Elite Camp invites
The journey to the NBA is not over for a pair of Ole Miss guards after Matthew Murrell and Allen Flanigan each received an invite to the NBA G League Elite Camp.
Taking place on May 11 and 12 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, the camp offers basketball players the chance to perform in front of professional coaches, scouts and front-office executives. They will play in five-on-five games plus strength and agility drills.
The Ole Miss duo is among 43 players who received invitations for the two-day camp.
After missing the NBA Draft early entry deadline it started to be speculated that Murrell was considering the option of returning to Ole Miss for one final season despite hinting he was done after this past year.
When speaking with The Ole Miss Spirit last month second-year head coach Chris Beard reiterated that he and his staff have been working under the impression Murrell wrapped up his Ole Miss career back in March.
“Matthew has been very transparent with us in his desire to give the NBA a try. He’s 100 percent in on going the professional route,” Beard said. “He’s got some tryouts coming up and we are excited for him and wish him all the best in fulfilling his dream of playing professional basketball.”
