Former Ole Miss player Luke Knox has died
On Thursday morning the Ole Miss, Florida International and college football community woke up to the news of Luke Knox’s passing.
Current FIU head coach and former Ole Miss defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre announced the death of Knox who was 22.
“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend Luke Knox,” MacIntyre said in a statement. “I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and at FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember.”
No further details or a cause of death have been revealed at this time.
Knox left Ole Miss after four seasons and entered the transfer portal in the offseason and chose to follow his former coach in MacIntyre and selected FIU.
During his time at Ole Miss Knox spent time at linebacker and then transitioned over to tight end during last year’s spring practices. In 23 games played Knox recorded 11 total tackles had a pass deflection and recovered a fumble.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin released a statement Thursday morning.
“There are heavy hearts throughout our football team after the passing of Luke Knox,” Kiffin said. “I am very grateful for my personal relationship and time spent with Luke. He was a tremendous teammate and and an even better person who lifted up everyone around him.
“The Knox family means so much to the Ole Miss family, and our players, staff and the rest of the university extend our deepest sympathies to all those that were touch by Luke’s spirit. I know he is with God now.”
Knox is the brother of former Ole Miss tight end and current Buffalo Bills player Dawson Knox.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott spoke on Knox’s death during his press conference on Thursday morning.
“Our hearts go out to Dawson and his family during this time,” McDermott said. “We’re right there with him in supporting him and his family. Just tragic news that I woke up to this morning.”
