From the Locker Room: Lane Kiffin, Jaxson Dart, Tre Harris and Daijahn Anthony
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, quarterback Jaxson Dart, wide receiver Tre Harris and safety Daijahn Anthony all met the media following the Rebels’ 73-7, season-opening win over Mercer on Saturday.
Dart, as expected, drew the start and impressed in going 18 for 23 with 334 yards and a career-high-tying four touchdowns. His 296 passing yards in the first half were a career-high. Ole Miss scored 28 points in the first 15 minutes, the most for the Rebels since 1967.
Harris is in his first Ole Miss season following a transfer from Louisiana Tech. Harris was an all-conference selection for the Bulldogs and certainly played like one Saturday. He set a new single-game Ole Miss record for receiving touchdowns (4). Harris had a team-high 133 yards on six catches.
Anthony secured the Rebels’ first interception of the 2023-24 campaign. Anthony, from Liberty, is one of 15 transfer defensive backs for Ole Miss this season. It was his sixth career INT.

“(Ole Miss first-year defensive coordinator and linebackers) Coach (Pete) Golding had a real good call right there,” Anthony said postgame. “They gave me quarterback vision and let me break on the ball.”
The Ole Miss defense gave up a 75-yard touchdown run on its first play of the season.
However, Mercer never threatened again. The Rebels held the Bears out of the Red Zone all game, and Mercer ended up with just 235 total offensive yards.
“We had two weeks to plan,” Anthony said. “We’ve been planning real hard. We took it like we were playing a big game. Every game’s a big game. We were really prepared. The transition from Lane Kiffin’s offense to Mercer’s offense was a big difference, but we prepared right. That’s how we got the results today.”
