The Ole Miss women’s basketball team suffered its first loss in the Southeastern Conference this past Sunday as Alabama came to Oxford and knocked off the Rebels.

Losing has become an irregular occurrence for the program as fifth year head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin has turned things around the last season and a half. The Rebels are now NCAA Tournament contenders, making the loss to the Crimson Tide sting that much more.

Ole Miss (16-3, 5-1 SEC) has the week off as every SEC team gets a built-in week by within the conference schedule and unfortunately the Rebels have to stew on the loss without a game until Sunday.

Turning the page is on the agenda for Ole Miss but McCuin still intends to look back at the game against Alabama one last time to remind the Rebels what went wrong and how to fix it moving forward.

On Wednesday McCuin and grad transfer Myah Taylor met with the media for the Ole Miss’ weekly availability. Each discussed the Alabama loss, learning from it and looking ahead towards Auburn as the first repeat opponent for the Rebels this season.

“I think we took time to actually feel what happened,” Taylor said of the Alabama game. “We had film session, had a heart-to-heart with (McCuin) about things that we need to fix. Whether that’s on the court or in the locker room. Whatever that is. It’s all about how we respond from here.”

Ole Miss still has a few more days before being able to get back on the court and wash the losing taste out of its collective mouths. The Rebels travel to Auburn (10-7, 0-5) on Sunday and take on the Tigers at 4 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
