Ole Miss head soccer coach Matt Mott announced the addition of William & Mary transfer Riley Friesen on Friday.

“We are thrilled to add Riley to our team for the 2022 season. She is an extremely versatile player with great position flexibility at either defender or holding midfielder who will add both depth and experience to an already talented group. Riley comes to us from a very well-respected program at William & Mary with a great history. We couldn’t be happier to have her as a Rebel.”

A two-time CAA Rookie of the Week, Friesen started all 16 matches for William & Mary in 2021 and played a team-high 1512 minutes from the center back position. The Tribe allowed just six goals in CAA play, which was the second fewest in the league, sporting a goals against average of 0.61 with five shutouts in nine matches. Friesen opened her collegiate scoring account at Delaware, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win for the Tribe.

Prior to making the move to Williamsburg, Virginia, Friesen played at Athens Academy, earning 2021 region player of the year laurels. She helped Athens Academy to a state runner-up finish in 2018, was named the 2018 Top Newcomer Award winner and was a finalist for the Athens Banner Herald Freshman of the Year. She also garnered ODP state and region player recognition.
