OLE MISS ATHLETICS MEDIA RELATIONS | SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Ole Miss women’s golf junior Chiara Tamburlini earned her spot in the final round of stroke play at the 2022 NCAA Championships on Sunday, with her three-day total of 220 (+4) on the week helping her past the round three cut line.
The conclusion of the third round on Sunday marked cut day for multiple teams and individuals in Scottsdale, as the field was trimmed down to the top 15 teams and top nine individuals not on an advancing team for Monday’s fourth round of stroke play.
After logging a 76 (+4) during round three at Grayhawk Golf Club, Tamburlini finishes day three tied for 16th overall and well above the 7-over cut line for the top nine advancing individuals.
Three birdies on the day helped lift Tamburlini above the cut line for Monday’s fourth round, as Tamburlini will look to best her personal-best finish of 15th at last year’s NCAA Individual Championship at tomorrow’s stroke play finale. Tamburlini now has eight total birdies on the week, while finishing par-or-better on 41 of her 54 holes played in Scottsdale.
Early bogeys got the best of Tamburlini to start off her third round, as the junior faced going 3-over through her opening four holes of play. However Tamburlini would quickly recover from this, earning birdies on No. 5 and No. 7 to shoot her way back up the leaderboard. One last bogey on No. 9 closed out the front nine of Tamburlini’s day with her shooting 2-over par.
Tamburlini’s back nine of the day once again saw a majority of its action in the opening few holes, recording a double bogey, birdie and bogey across the first three holes of the turn. Pars across the remaining six holes of round three saw Tamburlini’s day end with her sitting at four-over par on the day and on the week.
