Hipp to the ‘Sip: Dillon finally makes call, Ole Miss lands 2024 three-star tight end
Three-star 2024 tight end Dillon Hipp was seemingly on the verge of making a commitment nearly two months ago.
He was fresh off an official visit to Ole Miss, but Hipp still had other visits to take. He was still also considering his four other finalists: Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, TCU and Tennessee).
Still, the 6-foot-6, 230-pound Hipp was making no secret of his affinity for Lane Kiffin’s Rebels.
“Ole Miss is my favorite,” Hipp told the Spirit at the time.
The wait was a little longer than expected, but Hipp did, in fact, make a commitment to the Rebels.
Only it came on Sunday and following additional visits to Arizona State, TCU and Baylor. Hipp in 12 games last season had 28 receptions for 328 yards and four touchdowns. He’s ranked as a consensus three-star prospect by the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Hipp is the No. 951 overall player in his class.
He’s the No. 53 tight end and No. 15 player in Arizona. He held over 30 offers, including a handful from the SEC in Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Auburn. Hipp stars for Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Desert Mountain has season finished 10-3 and reached the state semifinals.
Hipp will join a tight end room that could lose veterans Caden Prieskorn and Michael Trigg following the 2023 season. Ole Miss this week opened preseason practices. The Rebels kick off the year against Mercer September 2.
Both Prieskorn and Trigg are eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft. Prieskorn is a former walk-on quarterback and Memphis Tiger. He was ranked by Pro Football Focus in the off-season as the No. 7 highest-graded returning tight end in college football.

Trigg was the No. 4 tight end in the country coming out of high school. He originally signed with USC but ended up transferring to Ole Miss with incumbent Rebel starting quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Ole Miss is excited about its depth behind Prieskorn and Trigg.
The Rebels are high on sophomores Kyirin Heath and Hudson Wolfe, as well as freshman Jayvontay Conner. Wolfe is a former four-star. Heath and Conner were both three-star recruits.
“The coaches have put a lot of effort into recruiting me and that meant a lot,” Hipp said of Ole Miss, in a previous interview with On3. “They’re an SEC school, they have great fans and they have a history with tight ends. It is not just at Ole Miss either.
“Lane Kiffin has a great tradition with tight ends.”
The 2024 Ole Miss recruiting class was ranked No. 28 in the country prior to Hipp’s commitment. Hipp is the Rebels’ 19th total pledge and the second in as many days. Wide receiver SanFrisco Magee, a Top 30 recruit in Mississippi, announced for the Rebels Friday night. His came not long after another in Oklahoma State transfer running back Jam Griffin.
Magee is the 13th three-star addition for Ole Miss. The Rebels have also committed three four-star-or-better prospects: In-state defensive linemen Kamron Beavers and Jeffery Rush and Alabama safety Travaris Banks.
All are four-star recruits. Beavers is the No. 3 player in Mississippi. Rush is No. 7. Both visited Ole Miss for Juice Fest last week. Juice Fest is the annual end-of-summer blowout event for Rebel recruiting.
