Jaxson Dart becomes the 11th Ole Miss player to win the Conerly Trophy
For the fourth time in the last five years Ole Miss is home to the top college football player in Mississippi.
On Tuesday Jaxson Dart was named the 2024 winner of the Conerly Trophy, which is presented to that season’s best player in the state. He adds another honor to his already lengthy Ole Miss legacy.
Dart beat out nine other players who were named finalist for the award last month, including Mississippi State safety Isaac Smith and Southern Mississippi punter Bryce Lofton.
Former Delta State quarterback Patrick Shegog broke the streak of three straight Ole Miss players earning the Conerly Trophy in 2023, beating out former Rebels running back Quinshon Judkins who was attempting to win it for a second straight year.
Ole Miss leads all Mississippi teams with 11 winners since the trophy’s creation in 1996. Mississippi State is second with nine.
“I’m thankful for my teammates and my coaches who took me in as a kid from Utah and, just, their welcoming arms,” Dart said. “The support and the guidance they’ve given me throughout my time.

“I’m extremely grateful for the state of Mississippi. People ask me all the time what’s so special about the state and I say the people. I’ve met tremendous individuals who showed me a tremendous way. It’s a very unique place and there’s truly nothing like it.”
The season has not panned out how Dart nor the Rebels envisioned, looking to be just on the outside of making the College Football Playoffs, but he had a strong individual performance that put him atop several records.
In the win over Mississippi State last Friday Dart surpassed Ole Miss legend Eli Manning as the all-time career passing leader. He is currently sitting at 10,213 passing yards in three seasons in Oxford and leads the Southeastern Conference and is fourth in the nation with 3,875 in 2024.
Should Dart choose to play in whatever bowl game the Rebels play in he could become only the second Ole Miss quarterback with a 4,000-yard season, tying Chad Kelly who achieved it in 2015 with 4,042 yards.
