Opting out during bowl season is part of the college football landscape now. Teams that do not reach the college football playoff, such as No. 14 Ole Miss, see an immediate exodus of players to the transfer portal or off to start their NFL Draft prep.

The Rebels are no exception to that with a handful of players hitting the portal on Monday’s first day of the December window, but it also started getting good news with a trio of players publicly stating they will play one final game with Ole Miss.

Headlining that group is senior quarterback Jaxson Dart, who was on the list of players who would not be a surprise to see not play in the Gator Bowl on January 2. Instead Dart is seeing his career as a Rebel to the finish line, announcing Monday is intentions to play.

Making a story on his Instagram account Dart posted a Gator Bowl graphic with the words ‘Last One’ with a heart emoji and ‘LFG.’

Dart already has a legacy that puts him as one of the best quarterbacks to play at Ole Miss, if not the best in certain categories. He surpassed Eli Manning as the all-time career passing leader during the Egg Bowl.

But an 11th game this season allows for Dart to record chase one last time.

Another record Dart is chasing Manning for is career touchdown passes. Manning has the record with 81 and Dart is currently in second place with 68, passing Bo Wallace‘s 62 late this season. It seems unlikely Dart will throw 13 touchdowns against Duke next month but if he somehow managed to throw seven he would pass Manning’s season touchdown record of 31. Dart is currently sitting at 25.

Depending how his stats go in Jacksonville, Dart is currently set to pass Matt Corral in yards per attempt record. Corral holds it with 10.2 yards per attempt in 2020 but Dart is sitting at 10.7 before he throws another pass.

Dart is currently second behind Corral in career completion percentage with 65.3 percent, completing 703 of his 1,083 attempts. Corral holds the record with 67.3 percent of his passes completed.

Ole Miss will have two key defensive players for the Gator Bowl, too.

Both defensive backs Trey Amos and Trey Washingon announced on their social media accounts on Monday their intentions to play one last game as a Rebel.

Washington is currently fourth in tackles with 54 and also has one interception. Amos is tied with John Saunders, Jr. with three picks and is sixth on the team in tackles with 47.

There are still some other key defensive players who have not made their intentions known yet, publicly, including linemen JJ Pegues, Jared Ivey, Princely Umanmielen and Walter Nolen.
