“(QBs) were more accurate”: Lane Kiffin breaks down Ole Miss’ latest fall camp practice and where the Rebels go from here
Lane Kiffin addressed local media for the first time in a couple of days on Saturday.
The message he wanted to send to his Ole Miss Rebels can be summed up pretty simply: They have a ways to go and many, many hours left before they’re anywhere near game-ready for kickoff of the 2022 season.
Ole Miss opens against Troy on September 3.
“It’s great to have training camp,” Kiffin said. “Sometimes you’ve got so many returning pieces it’s not as important and you’re more managing to stay healthy.
“This will not be the case (this camp).”
Ole Miss put on pads for the first time to close out the first week of fall camp.
The defense continues to receive rave reviews, while the offense is consumed with a heated quarterback battle between returning sophomore Luke Altmyer and USC transfer Jaxson Dart.
“All the guys are getting a lot of plays,” Kiffin said of the QBs. “We’re on two fields, and both fields are really important, especially in the fall, because you have better numbers. So, you got some good players down there on the other field to throw to and to look at.

“It sounds company-line, but all three (including Kinkead Dent) have done some good things and some bad things. I thought we were more accurate today. We hadn’t been accurate middle-to-deep throws, and that was the emphasis today. They responded, instead of overthrowing these long foul balls.”

The next session open to the media is Monday, August 8. The only practice open to fans is Saturday, August 13.
“Guys are working hard out there,” Kiffin said. “It’s good that it was hotter today than it had been to push them and get them uncomfortable. A lot of new guys, so a lot of work to do with them. Same story on and off the field.
“Our coaches have done a good job so far. There’s a lot of meshing together there as well with half the staff being new and and a new strength coach.”
