Last Friday Night: Highlights and stats from Ole Miss football recruiting commitments and targets
The 2022 high school football season is finally underway nationwide and a number of Ole Miss recruiting commitments and targets showed out in their season-opening games.
The Ole Miss Spirit, over the course of the year, will provide a weekly deep-dive, insider’s perspective on top performances, scouting reports, highlights and stats on prospects of Ole Miss interest in our new series, Last Friday Night.
THE COMMITS
4-star LB Suntarine Perkins
Raleigh (Miss.) and Ole Miss’ highest-ranked commit helped the Lions cruise to an easy 46-21 win over Newton County (Miss.), improving to 2-0. The 6-foot-3, 210 pound linebacker had a touchdown reception on offense and helped Raleigh put up 416 total yards. Defensively, he was instrumental in holding the visiting Newton County offense to just 215 total yards.
Next week: Taylorsville (Miss.), 7:30pm CT
4-star WR Ayden Williams
The Ridgeland (Miss.) wide receiver simply went off last week. The 6-foot-2, 190 pound commit finished with seven receptions for 255 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Titans defeat Pearl (Miss.) to the tune of 39-14. Through two games, Williams has 15 receptions for 413 yards and five touchdowns.
Next week: at Jim Hill (Miss.), Thursday 7:30pm CT
4-star IOL Brycen Sanders
Sanders and his Baylor School (Tenn.) teammates improved to 3-0 after a 48-9 thrashing of Knoxville Catholic (Tenn.) in Chattanooga. Sanders and his offensive line paved the way for the Raiders’ ground game.
Next week: BYE
4-star QB Marcel Reed
After Friday’s 23-20 win over McCallie (Tenn.), the Montgomery Bell Academy (Tenn.) quarterback and Ole Miss commit would probably admit he didn’t have his best outing. But, the 6-foot-2, 175 pound signal caller was still able to help the Big Red avenge last year’s loss in the 2021 Division II-AAA title game against those same Tornadoes with a dynamic dual-threat evening in Chattanooga.
Reed finished just 8-for-26 for 130 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions but was the leading rusher for MBA. He toted it 18 times for 128 yards and a touchdown, navigating through the McCallie defense and engineering a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter.
Next week: CPA, Thursday 7pm CT
4-star ATH Ahmad Brown
The 6-foot-1, 195 pound athlete was once again asked to play quarterback for Crisp County (Ga.) on Friday and led the Cougars to a 41-25 win over the Lovejoy (Ga.) Wildcats. The Rebel commit finished 9-for-16 for 145 yards and a touchdown and an interception. He also added four tackles on defense.

3-star S Daniel Demery
Demery and Parish Episcopal (Tex.) improved to 2-0 after a 24-17 win over Episcopal (Tex.) on Friday. The 5-foot-11, 194 pound defensive back finished his night with six tackles, two passes defended, one sack and one tackle for loss.
Next week: at LBJ Austin (Tex.), 7:30pm CT
THE TARGETS
4-star ATH Malachi Coleman
Ole Miss will host the On3 Consensus four-star from Lincoln, Neb., for an official visit October 1 when they open SEC play against Kentucky. On Friday, though, Coleman was helping the Spartans take down Lincoln Southeast (Neb.), 21-14. Cornhuskers’ head coach Scott Frost will do what he can to keep Coleman home but programs like Southern Cal and Ole Miss have the 6-foot-5, 190 pound athlete’s attention.
Next week: at Lincoln Southwest (Neb.), 7pm CT
4-star RB Christopher Johnson
The Dillard (Fla.) running back kicked things off with a bang last week, housing his first touch for an 80-yard touchdown against Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.) but it wasn’t enough as the visiting Panthers lost, 49-28.
Next week: at Miramar (Fla.), 7pm CT
3-star WR Cayden Lee
The Kennesaw Mountain (Ga.) wideout did his damndest to upstage Ayden Williams’ Friday performance as he hauled in 11 receptions for 172 yards and two touchdowns in the Mustang’s 37-36 win over the North Paulding (Ga.) Wolfpack. The 5-foot-11, 172 pounder just missed a third score and a 200+ yard performance after taking a screen pass 76-yards for a score which was negated by a questionable holding call.
Next week: BYE
3-star LB Taurean York
The Baylor commit continued his senior year tear with a huge 34-20 win over 2024 On3 Consensus four-star quarterback DJ Lagway and Willis (Tex.) on Friday. The 5-foot-11, 220 pound linebacker prospect finished the night with eight tackles and three sacks. In just two games in 2022, York already has 19 tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks.
Despite his verbal pledge to Dave Aranda and the Bears, York remains in contact with Maurice Crum and Ole Miss and plans on visiting during the season.
Next week: at College Station (Tex.), 7pm CT
