In this edition of Talk of Champions, Ben Garrett and Chuck Rounsaville of the Ole Miss Spirit/On3 provide the very latest Ole-Miss-insider news/rumors/scoop on Rebel football.

The Spirit has talked to and written stories on seven of the Rebels’ 20 brought in transfers from the off-season. Talk of Champions goes in-depth on each of their potential roles in 2023, as well as provide insight on their respective transitions to Ole Miss.

Plus, the podcast has the latest on the enrollment status of a number of other high-profile off-season additions, among them transfer wide receiver Zakhari Franklin. The Rebels are still awaiting word on one final class from UTSA, but sources indicate they remain confident Franklin ultimately makes it to campus.

They also touch on an up-and-down off-season for Ole Miss baseball, including the disappointing development of the likely loss of start shortstop signee Cooper Pratt.

Here’s a brief excerpt from their extended conversation.

Rounsaville provides his opinion on the seven transfers he’s profiled over the last few weeks.

CB Zamari Walton: He was here during the spring. I think he’s going to start at one corner opposite Deantre Prince. He had a lot of good battles with (Ole Miss wide receiver) Jalen Knox over the spring. It was great (and) helped both of them. Jalen would win some, Zamari would win some. Great competition.

DL Stephon Wynn: I haven’t seen Stephon Wynn, but he’s got great Power 5 experience at Alabama and Nebraska. He’s going to certainly be, at the very least, a depth piece on the defensive line.

TE Caden Prieskorn: Caden Prieskorn was here in spring, and he’s the prototypical, throwback tight end. Big guy that likes to block, runs good routes (and) good hands.

“I think he’s going to really enhance that position.”

Rounsaville, continued: He’s a guy that puts his hand in the dirt, whereas Michael Trigg is probably more of a slot guy (and) not too found of blocking. Prieskorn will take your head off; we saw that in spring.

LB Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste: He struggled a little bit in spring learning things. But towards the end of spring, it was pretty obvious he’s probably going to be one of the starting linebackers, or at the very least in the rotation. Big, physical kid. Once he gets going in the right direction and learns all the calls and everything, I think he’s going to be a big asset to this team.

WR Tre Harris: Haven’t seen Tre Harris do anything ‘cause he missed spring with a pulled hamstring. But everybody I talk to on the inside of the Manning Center says he’s probably No. 1 or No. 2 of the wide receivers from a sheer talent standpoint.

DT Joshua Harris: Joshua Harris had a good spring. In fact, he kind of beat out Zxavian Harris playing first team opposite JJ Pegues. Both of them are going to play a lot, the Harris boys. I like the fact he’s kind of an anchor in there.

EDGE Isaac Ukwu: I’m looking for big things out of him. I think him and Cedric Johnson are going to man that rush end. They’re going to split time, and I think both of them are going to have good years this year.
