Fourth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has joked before about his group text chain with a handful of other SEC head coaches.

Georgia’s Kirby Smart is among them. But Kiffin said Monday Smart, whose Bulldogs have won each of the last two national championships, has ghosted him this week.

Kiffin’s No. 10-ranked Rebels (8-1, 5-1 SEC) travel to Athens to face off with Smart’s top-ranked Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) Saturday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.

“We haven’t played before, so maybe he has a rule during the week of the game he doesn’t respond to you,” Kiffin joked.

The Rebels are riding a five-game winning streak.

Georgia, meanwhile, hasn’t lost a home game since 2019 — a span of nearly 1,500 days.

“Gigantic challenge in front of us,” Kiffin said. Kiffin’s Rebels are fresh off a come-from-behind, fourth-quarter win over Texas A&M. They’ve won eight of their first nine in a season for just the third time in 60 years. Kiffin’s the second-fastest Ole Miss head coach to 30 wins.

Kiffin added, “Going to play the No. 1 team in the country and playing at their place at night. I think the last time anyone’s beaten them there was five years ago before COVID. Last head coach that beat them there (Will Muschamp) I can’t really call and ask, because he’s now on their staff.

“There’s not a lot of answers out there on how to beat these guys at home. Lot of people have tried. We have to have a really good week of practice. This is a combination of elite, phenomenal players and elite, phenomenal coaches. And on the road. That’s the trifecta (of) what’s the hardest thing to pull off? This would be it.”

Kiffin made his remarks while meeting with local media on Monday. Kiffin was joined by Ole Miss defensive end Jared Ivey and tight end Caden Prieskorn.

Here’s everything they had to say.
