FINAL: OLE MISS 76, FURMAN 0

I think Middle Tennessee will provide a little bit more of a challenge but… I still think we have a month to go before we learn anything concrete about Ole Miss once SEC play starts with Kentucky.

Ole Miss 76, Furman 0 — 4th Qtr 11:43

Caden Davis redeems himself off the 43-yard miss by nailing a 41-yarder.

END OF THE 3RD QUARTER: OLE MISS 73, FURMAN 0

Another one for Matt Jones, but this one goes for 46 yards, and I believe it is first career multi-touchdown game. There still has to be one more quarter played but Furman would probably be cool with just packing it in for the night.

Ole Miss 66, Furman 0 — 3rd Qtr 4:46

Matt Jones gets himself another touchdown. Austin Simmons has the arm for this offense but couldn’t get catches from Aka for another score. Nearly all starters have been benched and moving on to Middle Tennessee.

Little bit of back and forth now this half with the backups in at offense. Outside of Simmons first throw the offense has not moved the ball much since. Trading punts back and forth midway through the 3rd quarter.

Ole Miss 59, Furman 0 — 3rd Qtr 12:49

Dart’s night is done as Austin Simmons wastes zero time, hitting Cayden Lee for a 35-yard touchdown pass. Hard to find anything bad to say in game one but mission accomplished, for sure.

The most points for Ole Miss in a half since, at least, 1962.

HALFTIME: OLE MISS 52, FURMAN 0

Caden Davis misses a 53-yard field goal try wide right and that is only bad thing that happened for Ole Miss in the first two quarters.

Ole Miss 52, Furman 0 — 2nd Qtr 1:34

Dart is just 9 yards from a 400-yard first half and he is up to 5 touchdown passes. The Ole Miss offense is a video game. Yes, it’s Furman but this has been clinical and surgical in nature so far.

Ole Miss 45, Furman 0 — 2nd Qtr 6:18

This is getting laughable at this point. Dart hits Harris in stride for a 61-yard touchdown pass. That is 360 yards and 4 TDs for Dart this half.

Probably going to see a heavy dose of the backups in the second half, I would assume. No need to risk anything with the starters at this point

Ole Miss 38, Furman 0 — 2nd Qtr 8:00

Dart is picking apart the Furman secondary, as he should be, but finds a wide open Tre Harris and Caden Prieskorn on the sideline. Prieskorn’s catch goes for 46 yards and the touchdown.

Dart is up to 299 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first half.

Ole Miss 31, Furman 0 — 2nd Qtr 11:27

The Ole Miss offense just keeps rolling. Dart finds tight end transfer Dae’Quan Wright for the 4-yard touchdown pass. Dart is now over 200 yards passing and 2 TDs in the first 18:30 minutes of the game.

Furman attempts it on fourth down, which the way the punter is struggling made sense, but the pass falls incomplete. Ole Miss offense takes over at their 37

END OF THE FIRST QUARTER: OLE MISS 24, FURMAN 0

Ole Miss 24, Furman 0 — 1st Qtr :58

Well the first miscue on offense happened with a clunky drive with another batted ball and a dropped pass by Micah Davis to force a field goal try. Caden Davis connected from 42 yards out.

Run game is still a little slow starting with 39 yards on 10 carries. Bentley and Parrish have not had any big breaks at the line of scrimmage. Without the starting or backup centers the line has more shifting around.

Ole Miss 21, Furman 0 — 1st Qtr 4:39

Will have to check the record books but that might be the first time No. 38 scored an offensive touchdown. JJ Pegues rumbled his way to a first down then stayed in and scored with help of a stutter step move.

Ole Miss offense is just so dangerous.

Another transfer making a splash instantly with Trey Amos tipping Carson Jones’ pass to himself for the interception. Rebels back in business in Paladins territory.

Ole Miss 14, Furman 0 — 1st Qtr 8:07

So the Juice Wells pickup out of the transfer portal seems like a good one. His first catch goes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile Dart is now 5-for-5 for 144 yards and the touchdown.

Cayden Lee getting some early snaps with Watkins not dressed out and hauls in a great catch to start the second drive.

The defensive line looks as advertised with a couple tackles for loss and quarterback pressures, but the secondary gave up a couple chunk passes. Overall a solid start, forcing the Paladins to punt on their opening possession.

Ole Miss 7, Furman 0 — 1st Qtr 11:53

Jaxson Dart looked very good the opening drive both with his arm and his legs. Caps the season-opening possession with a 15-yard keeper. He was a perfect 3-for-3 with passes for 54 yards.

The offense looked in mid-season form, needing only 8 plays to go 75 yards in three minutes and change.

Starting O-Line: James, Pettus, Kalepo, McIntyre, Williams

Furman won the toss and deferred. Ole Miss offense will start off the season

PREGAME

The season is finally getting started for No. 6 Ole Miss, hosting Furman at 6 p.m. CT inside Vaught-Hemingway stadium.

The first depth chart was revealed and there were some interesting things of note. Wide receiver Jordan Watkins did not dress out and left off the depth chart. Watkins wore a black jersey most of Fall camp as did transfer Juice Wells, but he is suited up and going through pre game warm ups.

The players with the green dot on their helmet (marking the in-helmet communications) are Jaxson Dart for offense and TJ Dottery on defense.

Captains for today are: JJ Pegues, Trey Washington, Jayden Williams and Jeremy James
