FINAL: LSU 29, OLE MISS 26 (OT)

A fast possession for the offense ends with a Dart sack and Masin punts it away but gets is down to the LSU 15

Trey Amos provides that stop with an interception on the first play of the drive for LSU. Time for the Rebels to cash in this gift.

Defense being asked for yet another major stop with the Rebels up four.

Dart’s first mistake comes at a critical time as he tries for it all on 1st and 25 with a deep ball to Lee in the endzone but it is picked off by Zy Alexander for the touchback. Needed points there of any kind in the worst way.

END OF THE 3RD QUARTER: OLE MISS 20, LSU 16

Ole Miss 20, LSU 16 1:10 3rd Qtr

Penalties kept that drive going with a roughing the passer on Nolen, but then the defense once again forces a field goal try that Ramos connects on this time. Critical offensive possession here for Ole Miss.

Ole Miss 20, LSU 13 4:41 3rd Qtr

Caden Davis living dangerously but nails the 35-yard field goal to give Ole Miss a touchdown lead, again.

Dart is struggling when it comes to the pressure and the offensive line is starting to get blown up more times than not. There was a missed guy as well that caused Dart to have to get rid of it faster than he would have preferred.

As bad as the secondary has been tonight it also comes up with some key stops like those last thee plays of the drive to force a field goal try. Damian Ramos pushed it wide right for the miss. This Ole Miss defense has been more than marginally better this season.

Opening drive of the half for Ole Miss was a weird and sloppy one. Dart saw the most pressure he’s seen consistently on one drive tonight. A personal foul call on Gerquan Scott backed them way up and nothing left to do but punt.

First Half Stats:

HALFTIME: OLE MISS 17, LSU 13

Nussmeier can’t connect on three passes, including two in the end zone, and LSU kicks another field goal. This one was for 45 yards. Ole Miss defense his doing its best here, but those three opportunities making this game closer now than it should be.

Parrish then fumbles on the first play and LSU recovers after a review took place, aided with Kiffin calling a timeout to try and save some clock.

Ole Miss defense holds and forces a field goal try instead, which is converted by the Tigers.

Canady has had a rough go tonight but he made a tremendous play to get enough of his hand on the ball and cause it to be bobbled, negating the touchdown.

Ole Miss 17, LSU 7 1:42 2nd Qtr

To dissect that play: Tre Harris used the defender to jump and catch the ball, then rotated off the defender’s knee to keep the ball from touching the ground. Totally was his plan to start.

Dart is having a solid game tonight. Quietly thrown 137 yards and rushed for 21. Rebels at the LSU 19 after the two-minute timeout.

Ole Miss 10, LSU 7 5:33 2nd Qtr

A third time on third and long Nussmeier has found an open receiver deep in the middle of the field to keep a drive alive. This drive finally results in points for the Tigers with a 12-yard TD pass.

Ole Miss 10, LSU 0 8:38 2nd Qtr

That 4th down play call worked and Bentley has been unlocked with a 50-yard run and the Rebels have their first touchdown, officially.

Perkins blew up that fourth down play from the start for a three-yard loss and a turnover on downs. The bad 4th down plays are not exclusive to Ole Miss now.

Ole Miss 3, LSU 0 14:55 2nd Qtr

Kiffin showed his trust in Davis with that decision to try the field goal. Davis gets back on track with a 49-yard field goal. Drilled it.

END OF THE 1ST QUARTER: OLE MISS 0, LSU 0

There has been a lot of chatter back and forth so far. Dart and Harris involved on that third down play, Lane tried to break up each ones little tussle.

You knew they would go back to that play sooner than later and Harris makes that catch for 47 yards.

Defense forces a third LSU punt in the first four drives, the other being the Brown interception. One observation from that drive is that Suntarine Perkins is used best when he’s a Spy. Made a nice pursuit of Nussmeier on second down.

Three massive opportunities gone by the wayside for Ole Miss. On 4th and 1 at the Tigers 4 Parrish is stuffed for a loss of a yard and a turnover after the big takeaway.

That is why you do the tip drill. Jamarious Brown recovers what started as a deflected pass then tipped in the air to Brown’s hands. He then runs it to the Tigers 13.

Caden Davis pushes a 32-yard field goal try just right of the goal posts. Need points when you can get it.

A holding call on Pettus stalls a promising drive by Ole Miss and negated a 12-yard run by Dart to get a first down. Harris could not convert a third and 16. Bentley made an appearance in the drive and got a first down on a direct snap for 10 yards.

Two good opening drives for the defense, which forces a second straight LSU punt. This drive was aided by a flag on LSU with Lacy going out of bounds before coming in and making a catch.

Noise a problem early for the offensive line with a false start on second down. Rebels nearly, and should have, over come it but Harris drops a deep pass from Dart. The throw had time and was on target, too.

A 6-yard run and two incomplete passes, including a push-out by Canady, creates a three-and-out for LSU. Ole Miss takes over at their 24.

Perkins, Ivey, Harris and Nolen the starting defensive linemen

LSU won the toss and elected to take the ball first. Rebels defense gets first crack.

PREGAME

Big one in Death Valley for No. 9 Ole Miss (5-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) as it takes on No. 13 LSU (4-1, 1-0) before it gets its first bye week of the season.

The Rebels are looking for a second straight win after stubbing its toe against Kentucky in their SEC opener two weeks ago and a rebound victory at South Carolina a week ago.

Health is a big topic entering this game with Ole Miss and LSU dealing with key injuries. Tre Harris who was dealing with a foot injury will give it a go and was not listed on the final availability report issued Saturday.

JJ Pegues and Princely Umanmielen are listed as ‘game time decisions’ while the biggest name among the players listed as ‘out’ is Matt Jones. Which means Ulysses Bently IV should be the running back number two behind Henry Parrish, Jr.

Pegues, Umanmielen and Harris are all suited up and going through warm ups. Harris looks okay and Princely seems to be moving around alright.
