FINAL: No. 10 Ole Miss 38, Texas A&M 35

Aggies attempt the 47-yard field goal to tie it but it is blocked by Zxavian Harris as time expires and the Rebels hold on for the win.

Ole Miss 38, Texas A&M 35 1:40 4Q

Something very special about this offense. It goes 75 yards in nine plays and retakes the lead off Judkins third rushing touchdown of the game.

The playmakers of Harris, Judkins and Dart shined on that drive, which was aided by a defensive pass interference call on the Aggies.

Texas A&M 35, Ole Miss 31 4:34 4Q

Penalties have been the culprit this half for Ole Miss as another defensive pass interference leads to a Texas A&M touchdown. That three-and-out by the offense the previous drive hurts even more.

Not what Ole Miss needed. A very quick three-and-out followed by a short punt by Fraser Masin gives the Aggies the ball back with the chance to take the its first lead.

Ole Miss 31, Texas A&M 28 12:04 4Q

Texas A&M is not going away and actually having greater success in the run game this half than in the first. A catch that was ruled incomplete initially was overturned after replay and the Aggies cash in on a 1-yard run by Amari Daniels.

This is the closest the Aggies have gotten to Ole Miss since the game was scoreless in the first quarter. Offense once again needs to answer the bell.

END OF THE 3RD QUARTER: OLE MISS 31, TEXAS A&M 21

Dart has thrown for 364 yards and a two touchdowns. Judkins is up to 65 yards and two touchdowns.

Ole Miss 31, Texas A&M 21 :46 3Q

Tre Harris is a special, special player. He is 10 yards away from a 200-yard day and nearly hauled in the touchdown but was out of bounds in the back of the endzone.

Caden Davis with the 22-yard field goal and the Rebels lead by two-scores once again.

Ole Miss 28, Texas A&M 21 5:05 3Q

While Texas A&M might have been considered deflated after that exchange to start the second half the offense responded with a touchdown drive. Max Johnson hit an open Jake Johnson for the 28-yard score.

Isaac Ukwu also looked to suffer a leg injury on that play, which would be a blow to the depth of the defensive line the rest of the way.

Ole Miss 28, Texas A&M 14 7:04 3Q

Tre Harris is making himself a lot of money with each of these catches. A 40-yard catch gets the Rebels in the red zone. A flagrant personal foult penalty on Aggies Shemar Turner leads to a 6-yard touchdown run by Judkins. The two-point try is good with Dart finding a wide open Harris.

Ole Miss 20, Texas A&M 14 8:17 3Q

John Saunders, Jr. was called for a hold on a 3rd and long that would have gotten Texas A&M off the field. He made up for with an interception in the end zone that stopped a very good Aggies drive in its tracks.

Texas A&M was having its way with the Rebels defense on that opening drive that ate up nearly seven minutes of the third quarter but zero points to show for it.

First Half Stats:

HALFTIME: OLE MISS 20, TEXAS A&M 14

Rebels were backed up after another penalty on the kickoff return which Matt Jones did not take very far to begin win. Kiffin plays conservative and punts it away to end the half, knowing Aggies had zero timeouts left.

Ole Miss 20, Texas A&M 14 1:44 2Q

Now the scoring is commencing at a rapid pace. That blocked field goal turned touchdown game Texas A&M life when it seemed Ole Miss was close to shutting the door early.

Le’Veon Moss scores on a 13-yard run and did so with ease. The failed two-point try is looming a little with the Aggies getting the ball to start the second half. Another big moment for the Rebels offense here.

Ole Miss 20, Texas A&M 7 6:53 2Q

On what can only be described as hiding out along the sideline Jordan Watkins is wide open and scores on a 29-yard pass. The two-point try was no good.

The Ole Miss offense is having its way in the passing game agaisnt the Aggies defense and moves right down the field again.

Ole Miss 14, Texas A&M 7 8:12 2Q

Big swing and turn of events here.

Three penalties in four plays negates a Bentley touchdown and Ole Miss settled for a 41-yard field goal attempt by Caden Davis. It is blocked by the Aggies and Jacoby Mathews returns it 75 yards for the touchdown.

Ole Miss went on a 94-yard drive. Tremendous answer by this offense against this Aggies defense through the first 17 minutes of the game.

Ole Miss 14, Texas A&M 0 12:53 2Q

Judkins had a 18-yard run the play Dart was out for but two plays later he connects with Harris for the 11-yard touchdown pass. Two-score lead at this juncture seems big at the moment.

Dart took a shot after his throw to Judkins and went down for a moment. He was looked at but Spencer Sanders is now in for a play, but Dart is back in.

END OF THE 1ST QUARTER: OLE MISS 7, TEXAS A&M 0

A lot was made of the Aggies defense, and rightfully so, but Pete Golding has his defense very prepared here in the early going. A third straight point by Texas A&M.

And it was an opportunity missed as Bentley lost a yard on the first down play, Dart sacked then an incomplete pass that was nearly intercepted leads to a punt by Masin.

Rebels defense the first to break serve, so to speak, forcing the Aggies to punt it away a second time. This is a big chance for the offense here.

Ole Miss 7, Texas A&M 0 7:45 1Q

Dart throws a perfect ball to Harris for 39 yards and then Quinshon Judkins runs in nearly untouched for the nine-yard score. A very strong second drive by the Ole Miss offense.

On fourth down Kiffin sends all three quarterbacks, JJ Pegues and Hudson Wolf out. Pegues picked up the first down. That was quite the package, but it’s towards the end of the season so let it ride, I guess.

Ole Miss 0, Texas A&M 0 10:47 1Q

The Ole Miss defense also forces a four-and-out after the Aggies got a good gain on their first play.

Tre Harris got a pass interference called on the Aggies on the first play but then the offense went no further. Kiffin opting to punt on a managable fourth down early in the game.

Pregame Observations

Texas A&M won the toss but deferred to the second half. Ole Miss offense goes against the Aggie defense right out of the shoot.

Zxavian Harris was dressed out and doing warm ups. Isheem Young was not on the field and is not listed on the roster any more.

Next Saturday could feature the biggest game in the history of the Ole Miss football program. But first the No. 10 Rebels host Texas A&M this Saturday.

Since Lane Kiffin took over at Ole Miss he has had the number of Texas A&M and head coach Jimbo Fisher, beating them the last two seasons. The Rebels are looking for their second three game winning streak over the Aggies in the last nine years.

Doing so will be a challenge with Texas A&M bringing one of the top defenses in the country. The Aggies are second in the nation with 33 sacks and lead the Southeastern Conference.

“Just dominant. They’re dominant players in the run, they can pass rush and they bring other ones in to rush too,” Kiffin said this week. “It’s not very exciting for our O-Line coach (John Garrison), I can tell you that. A&M’s done a great job of collecting players and putting them together, so it’s a big challenge.”

On the flip side of things the Ole Miss defense has come on strong in the last month. They are the second best defense in the SEC when it comes to sacks with 30, just behind Texas A&M.

Last season Quinshon Judkins rushed for over 200 yards against the Texas A&M defense in College Station, but that same task might be tough sledding on Saturday. Quarterback Jaxson Dart is going to have to get the passing game going better than it has in recent weeks in an attempt to open up the run lanes for Judkins and Ulysses Bentley IV.
