FINAL: OLE MISS 27, SOUTH CAROLINA 3

A key stat for this game: South Carolina is 1-for-4 on fourth down attempts today. The Ole Miss defense has done its job and then some.

This needs to be a game-ending drive here for Ole Miss, which has kind of played with its food here in the second half so far.

Once again the defense does not break. After giving up some third down conversions Trey Amos comes up with the interception in the endzone to kill the South Carolina threat.

END OF THE 3RD QUARTER: OLE MISS 27, SOUTH CAROLINA 3

Ole Miss 27, South Carolina 3 1:56 3rd Qtr

Sure seems Kiffin is trying to get Wells a touchdown catch here this game. Dart is now 14-for-26 with a majority of those 12 incomplete passes in Wells direction, including that one on third down where he over threw an open Wells.

Caden Davis connects on a 44-yard field goal to stretch the lead out to 24 points late in the third.

Juice Wells nearly had a good play to smile home about in his former stadium but he fumbles it at the two yard-line and it bounces straight out the back of the end zone for a touchback. What was a big play for the Rebels results in the game not getting put away just yet.

South Carolina’s offense looked much more fluid and smoother on the drive to open up the second half. The defense stood once again, though, outside of its redzone and forced a 38-yard FG try, which was no good.

HALFTIME: OLE MISS 24, SOUTH CAROLINA 3

First Half Stats:

Ole Miss 24, South Carolina 3 :31 2nd Qtr

Dart with a 41-yard pass to Watkins who nearly scores but gets it to inside the five yard-line. Pegues then cashes it in with a 1 yard touchdown, his second of the day.

The Rebels defense has understood the assignment today, forcing its third punt of the game. Plenty of pressure on Sellers today.

Ole Miss forced to punt after a deep pass from Dart to Wells goes incomplete. Will be interesting to see how the passing game adjusts if Harris does not return in the second half.

Been a lot of injury stoppages for the Rebels and the latest one is for Tre Harris who goes down after a first down catch. He walked to the injury tent but favored his right foot/ankle/leg.

Ole Miss 17, South Carolina 3 7:16 2nd Qtr

Kiffin went from thinking about going for it on 4th and goal from the 2 to opting for the field goal try then calling timeout and opting to go for it. Then after all that Kiffin calls a dummy play and Gamecocks defense do not bite. Caden Davis then nails the 24-yard FG

Whatever was bugging Dart last week seems to be remedied as he is looking dialed in so far. Evidenced by that 59-yard pass to Tre Harris as he took a shot in the pocket.

McIntyre down and getting his left knee looked at. He’s being helped to the sideline, slowly. Caleb Warren now coming in at center.

Ole Miss 14, South Carolina 3 10:08 2nd Qtr

Defense holds just outside the red zone and forces a 40-yard field goal try, which South Carolina gets.

Well Kiffin an Beamer have both wiffed on a fourth and short call. On 4th and 2 Rebels go for it but Parrish is stopped well short with a jet sweep out wide. Gamecocks get it back at the Rebels 47.

Make that another fourth down stuff by this Ole Miss defensive line. Nolen and Pegues pushed through and Nolen gets the sack on 4th and 3 for turnover. Rebels ball at their 40.

END OF THE 1ST QUARTER: OLE MISS 14, SOUTH CAROLINA 0

Gamecocks finding something on this possession with the run and Sellers making plays with his athleticism. Currently at the Ole Miss 35.

Ole Miss punted for the second time today after another holding call, this time on Pounds, kills a drive.

Ole Miss 14, South Carolina 0 5:57 1st Qtr

Dart with 77 passing yards and 6-for-8 to start the day.

Offense is clicking now. Juice Wells with a 29-yard reception on the drive, which is capped by a 1-yard ‘leap’ by JJ Pegues.

A penalty erases a John Saunders, Jr. interception but Ole Miss still gets the takeaway a couple plays later as Robby Ashford fumbles the ball on a RPO read to Sanders. Walter Nolen landed on it for the recovery.

Ole Miss 7, South Carolina 0 10:36 1st Qtr

The offensive line protection was much better. Dart had time to make his throws and racked up 20 yards on the short field. Parrish caps it with a three-yard touchdown run.

Similar to last week as the defense is playing well to keep the offense in it. Defense forces a punt and South Carolina tries the trickery with the fake but is stopped. Rebels ball deep in Gamecocks territory.

The offensive line saw no changes to start the game with Warren, James and Scott not out there. The pass protection left a lot to be desired with Dart under pressure a couple plays. A holding call on Pettus backed things up and caused a 4-and-out.

South Carolina won the coin toss and deferred. Ole Miss will start out with the ball on offense.

Parrish, James, Pegues and Moore are all suited up and going through warm ups like normal. There is nothing on James’ hand beyond a glove.

PREGAME

Bounce back time for No. 12 Ole Miss after its stunning loss at home to Kentucky last weekend. Now the challenge is getting its first Southeastern Conference win of the season on the road at South Carolina.

The Rebels (4-1, 0-1 SEC) are looking a little beat up entering the bulk of conference play. Defensive end Princely Umanmielen is out with an ankle injury, depleting the defensive line some. Running back Henry Parrish, Jr. is a game-time decision.

This could open up the possibility there might a heavier does of Ulysses Bentley IV than the previous five games, which is not a high bar to clear.

Jeremy James, JJ Pegues and Louis Moore are also game-time decisions.

On the Gamecocks side of things quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Rahiem ‘Rocket’ Sanders have been listed as probable throughout the week. This would be a boost to South Carolina (3-1, 1-1) and its offense if either of them play significant snaps.
