FINAL: RED TEAM 53, BLUE TEAM 52

Red team gets seven points to set up a situational two-minute drive trailing by a touchdown and Dart leads them down to do so. They convert the two-point attempt and mount the ‘comeback’ to win the 2023 Grove Bowl.

Grove Bowl winding down but Walker Howard picks up a rushing touchdown to add to his 3 passing touchdowns.

Dart leads the Red Team on another drive that results in a field goal.

All three quarterbacks have looked good today, which may not be saying much or it may be saying a lot. Both Sanders and Dart have thrown for over 220 yards while Howard has thrown for 139 yards and three touchdowns.

Sanders really really likes Trigg. The two have combined for 8 passes, 125 of Sanders’ 254 passing yards and a touchdown.

Larry Simmons makes his first catch of the game a touchdown to cap the drive. Sanders hits him for the 11-yard strike. There is so much offense and scoring in this game, makes it very hard to grade the defense with the format.

End of the third quarter: Blue Team 38, Red Team 35

Dart counters with a touchdown drive for the Red team. A drive that included a nice catch by Chris Marshall who has four catches for 89 yards.

Fred McAfee with his first rushing touchdown of the game. He has nine carries for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Sanders with another touchdown drive and finds Buckhalter for the scoring pass. Buckhalter has 5 catches for 35 yards and the score.

Defense has not slowed down any of the three quarterbacks for the most part today. Of course the tackling is more two-hand touch than actual tackling, which is making it hard to get a gauge on the defense in all honesty.

Ole Miss (Blue) 31, Ole Miss (Red) 28 9:31 3Q

Walker Howard with four passing touchdowns on the day after he finds Jordan Watkins for the 63 yard touchdown pass. Watkins then hauled in the two-point conversion.

Sanders and the Blue team come out to open up the second half. He looks very good with 164 passing yards on the day and a touchdown to go with an interception.

Caden Davis with the 25 yard FG.

HALFTIME: OLE MISS (BLUE) 28, OLE MISS (RED) 20

Red team’s final drive of the half stalls in the red zone. Another Caden Costa field goal is settled for.

A healthy Bentley showing off his speed with a 40-yard touchdown run where he was essentially untouched. He’s had a good game with a six carries and 66 yards plus the score.

Sanders is back out and leads the Blue team down for the touchdown drive. He scored on the six-yard keeper.

He had a nice throw to JJ Henry on the drive for a long gain. Continues to find Trigg as well.

Ole Miss (Red) 17, Ole Miss (Blue) 14 8:06 2Q

Howard came in at quarterback for the Red team as he is the flex QB for today – on both rosters – and leads them down for the touchdown drive.

A 25-yard TD pass from Howard to Jalen Knox, who made a great grab in the endzone and held on to the ball.

Well there is some trickeration early in the Grove Bowl. Bentley finds Sanders for 50 yards to open the drive. But it ends with an interception by Saunders.

Walker Howard out for the Blue team’s second drive of the game. Sanders is probably still on pitch count of sorts with the shoulder.

First 4th down attempt for the Red team and it does not convert on the 4th and 1 as Fred McAfee is stuffed behind the line.

Ole Miss (Blue) 7, Ole Miss (Red) 3 6:10 1Q

Ole Miss (Red) 3, Ole Miss (Blue 0) 11:20 1Q

The Ole Miss football team ends its spring with the annual Grove Bowl on Saturday inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

After four weeks of practices Ole Miss shuts things down after the intrasquad scrimmage for a few months before ramping back up in July with summer workouts. Fall camp will begin in August.

Ole Miss split its roster into a Red Team and a Blue Team which were formed by the players drafting roster.

The game will start at 2 p.m. CT and will go for approximately two hours on ESPN+.

This year’s Grove Bowl will consist of four 15-minute quarters, with a running clock and normal scoring format. The final four minutes of each half will have a clock stoppage. There will be no kickoffs and the ball will be spotted at the 30-yard line.

Jaxson Dart will quarterback the Red Team while Spencer Sanders will quarterback the Blue Team.
