Ole Miss running back Logan Diggs made his debut for the Rebels in the Gator Bowl Thursday night against Duke. He came in on the third drive of the game for Ole Miss, catching a pass for six yards.

Out for the entire season due to a knee injury sustained nearly a year ago while still with LSU, Diggs has been a non-factor for the Rebels (9-3). Diggs took some reps at Gator Bowl practices after getting on the field late in the regular season during practice.

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart provided a glowing review of what he has seen from Diggs in this short time.

“It’s been fun to see him out there,” Dart said before the game. “I know it’s been a long time for him. It’s something that we’ve all really be anticipated. He looks great and it’s going to be fun to have him in the backfield and watch him make plays.”

Diggs transferred in from LSU back in the offseason but after suffering an injury in this past January’s Citrus Bowl, he underwent surgery. That procedure took him out of action and out of the plans when it came to the Ole Miss run game for 2024.

Since the last month of the regular season there were rumblings that Diggs was trying to make a return but when or how effective was unsure. November came and went and Diggs did not make an appearance.

Throughout the December bowl practices Diggs has been seen wearing a knee brace but also taking reps with the rest of the running backs.

“He’s looked like the player that we always knew he was going to be,” Ole Miss wide receiver Cayden Lee told reporters. “Hopefully get him in the game a little bit and see what he can do and just go from there.”

Henry Parrish, Jr. is out with the season-ending injury at Arkansas. Micah Davis hit the transfer portal (kidding, mostly) as did Matt Jones, leaving Ulysses Bentley IV and Domonique Thomas as the current available running backs for this week.

Both took reps at practice along with Diggs and with Bentley rolling in the Gator Bowl early on, Diggs is now in action. At the time of publishing, Bentley just put Ole Miss up 14-0 in the 1st quarter and has totaled 53 total yards on eight touches with a score.

After transferring from Notre Dame, Logan Diggs spent the 2023 season at LSU, where he was the starting running back for the Tigers for most of the season. He played 10 games with eight starts, notching 653 yards and seven touchdowns on 119 carries on the ground, all of which led all LSU rushers.
